Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two visitor groups and report several relevant figures, including the first-time visitors’ fall from about 8,000 to 4,000 and the returning visitors’ rise to around 15,200 in 2006. However, the overview is inaccurate: returning visitors were not the highest group every year, since first-time visitors were higher in 2000. The claim that first-time visitors were the lowest throughout is also too broad. Some key trends are reported, but the account does not clearly compare the groups across the whole period, and the description of first-time visitors’ later rise is not supported with the 2004 and 2006 figures. A more accurate overview and fuller comparisons would make the response more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an introduction and overview to details about each visitor group. Time markers such as “after 2 years,” “in next years,” and “in 2006” help the reader follow the timeline. However, progression is not consistently clear because the details are grouped loosely, and several linking devices are awkward or repetitive, including “While,” “Furthermore,” “Whereas,” and “Moreover.” The sentence beginning “While, first time visitors…” is not smoothly connected to the preceding point, and the final sentence combines several ideas without a clear relationship. Organise the body by comparing both groups at each stage, and use fewer, more precise transitions and clearer referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “declined,” “increased,” “peak level,” and “slightly declined,” so the main trends can generally be understood. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “the value of visitors,” “rapidly inclined,” and “touch on peak level.” Repeated use of “value” also makes the description less precise; the graph shows numbers of visitors. There are spelling errors, including “timr” and “continously,” and inconsistent capitalisation of “Caryl Island.” Aim for standard chart language and accurate forms—for example, describe visitor numbers as rising, falling, reaching a peak, or standing at a particular figure.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts some longer sentences and uses past-tense forms to describe changes, but the grammatical range is limited and errors occur frequently. For example, “The line graph illustrates information about the value of first time visitors and returning visitors visited into Caryl island” has an unclear structure, while “Overall,it is clearly seen that, the highest value was returning visitors every year” contains faulty punctuation and sentence construction. There are also problems with articles, prepositions, and clause formation, as in “during 2000 to 2008” and “the visitors value in Caryl island it was near about 13500.” These errors sometimes make relationships difficult to follow. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then build controlled comparisons using “whereas” or “while.”
