Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify both visitor groups and describe their broad movements, including the fall in first-time visitors to 4,000 in 2002 and the rise in returning visitors to 12,000 in 2004. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: returning visitors were not consistently higher, since first-time visitors led in 2000, and the two series do not simply show opposite trends “at the end.” Some key details are omitted or misreported: returning visitors reached about 15,200 in 2006, while first-time visitors rose to about 11,800 in 2008, rather than 12,000. The response is also three words below the 150-word minimum. Add a clearer overview and report the main peaks and final figures accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two visitor groups. This gives the reader some organisation, and phrases such as “On closer observation” and “Additionally” signal transitions. However, progression within the paragraphs is not always clear. The overview’s reference to a “downward and upward trend at the end” is difficult to interpret, and “Alternatively” does not logically introduce the next point about returning visitors. Some links are mechanical, while the sequence of changes is occasionally compressed or confusing. Use a concise overview that compares the groups, then describe each series in chronological order with clear links such as “after this” and “by 2006.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “decreased,” “increases,” “declined,” and “returning visitors,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices or combinations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “accounted larger in number” and “accounted approximately lowered” are not natural ways to describe the data, while “constant made up” does not clearly express a trend. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “ilustrates,” “intially,” “numbet,” and “siginificantly.” Aim for precise trend language and check spelling: for instance, use “was higher than,” “fell to,” “rose steadily,” and “peaked at” where appropriate.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, including clauses beginning “whereas” and “as,” and the reader can usually identify which visitor group you mean. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently in verb forms, sentence construction, and punctuation. Examples include “the number visitors returning accounted larger,” “first time visitors account,” and “the figures could have suddenly increases.” These patterns make relationships between ideas unclear. There are also missing spaces after commas and inconsistent sentence boundaries, as in “Overall, the” and “Additionally, in terms of returning visitors, the figures…” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and straightforward comparative structures, such as “Returning visitors rose from X to Y,” before attempting longer sentences.
