Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify the two visitor groups and give a broad overview of their contrasting patterns: returning visitors rise to a peak before falling, while first-time visitors dip and then recover. However, several details are inaccurate or incomplete. In 2000, first-time visitors were about 8,000, not 3,000; returning visitors were about 3,000. The returning figure rises to around 15,000 in 2006, then falls to about 13,400, rather than 14,000. The account of first-time visitors also stops before reporting their later rise to about 11,800. The response is under the required 150 words, and the unfinished final sentence leaves a key trend unreported. Include accurate comparisons and complete the summary.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an opening, an overview and a paragraph of figures, and phrases such as “Overall” and “In contrast” help signal relationships. However, progression is difficult to follow because several comparisons are compressed into one paragraph and some linking phrases are incomplete or misused, including “Other hand” and “other side.” The final sentence ends abruptly at “the number of first time visitors,” so the report has no complete ending and the later trend is not connected to the earlier information. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and supporting details, group the two series clearly, and ensure each sentence and the report itself are complete.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
The response uses some relevant task vocabulary, including “increased,” “declined,” “peak” and “dramatically,” showing an attempt to describe changes rather than simply list figures. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which can make the meaning unclear. For example, “grow up frequently” does not naturally describe a rise in visitor numbers, and “crush down” is not an appropriate way to describe a decline. There are also noticeable spelling errors such as “vistors,” “appoximately” and “decrased,” alongside inconsistent naming of the island as “Cary” rather than “Caryl.” Build a reliable set of trend verbs and check spelling and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences and use contrast clauses, for example, “In contrast, the number of first time vistors line fell sharply…” and “While, the number of returning visitors increased…”. However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors frequently make relationships between figures harder to understand. Examples include “visitors that visited to,” “it declined slightly 2008,” and “as compare to returning visitors.” Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent: “2008.In contrast” lacks a space, while “While,” incorrectly separates a dependent clause from what follows. Aim first for accurate simple sentences with clear subjects and verbs, then add correctly formed comparisons and time phrases.
