Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0

The response makes an attempt to describe both visitor groups, but it does not give a reliable summary of the graph’s main features. Several figures and trends are reversed or confused: first-time visitors fell from about 8,000 to 4,000 between 2000 and 2002, rather than rising to 10,000, while returning visitors rose from about 3,000 to 10,000, rather than dropping from 8,000. The later rise to 12,000 for returning visitors is mentioned, but the account ends before covering the remaining years or the overall comparison. The overview is also unclear and inaccurate. At 120 words, the response is 30 words below the required minimum. To improve, report the main trends accurately and include a concise overview and key figures across the full period.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response, with an opening, an overview beginning “OVERALL,” and a paragraph of details. However, the ideas do not progress clearly: the account moves between the two visitor groups and years without consistently identifying which series is being described. Phrases such as “again after 2002 the line representing average change” do not make the relationship between the figures clear, and the final sentence stops after one comparison. Linking words such as “again” and “in 2000” provide some connection, but they are not enough to guide the reader through the graph. Use separate, logically ordered sentences for each series, and group the early and later trends so the comparison is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The response attempts some task-related vocabulary, including “visitors,” “rise,” “drop,” and “dominant,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, word choice and spelling problems often make the meaning difficult to interpret. For example, “going back their home country” does not accurately describe returning visitors, and “far dominant mode” is not a natural way to compare the figures. There are also misspellings such as “returnig,” “rzte,” and “visistors,” alongside repeated use of basic terms such as “line” and “number.” Aim for precise graph language and check spelling: for example, use “returning visitors,” “increased,” “declined,” and “stood at” to describe the data clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts both simple and more extended sentence forms, but grammatical control is inconsistent and errors frequently obscure the intended meaning. For example, “it can clearly seen” is missing the auxiliary “be,” while “the first time visitors was” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. Tense and sentence construction are also problematic in “its showing rise of line 2000 to 10000 till 2002,” which lacks a clear grammatical structure. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including the all-capital “IN” and missing spaces after commas. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use the past tense consistently for this historical graph. A reliable pattern is: “The figure for first-time visitors fell from X to Y.”
