Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the two visitor groups and describe several key movements, including the first-time visitors’ fall from 8,000 to 4,000 and the returning visitors’ rise to 10,000 in 2002. The overview also notes the broad increase in both series. However, the overview is not fully accurate: returning visitors peaked in 2006, then declined by 2008, rather than simply increasing across the period. The final paragraph also gives the returning-visitor figures in confusing order, saying they fell to 13,000 in 2008 before rising to 12,000 in 2004 and 15,000 in 2006. Report the sequence chronologically and make the contrasting 2006 peak and subsequent fall explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two visitor groups. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. Some linking expressions, such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “Secondly,” help signal progression, but the final paragraph’s figures are presented out of chronological order, making the trend difficult to follow. The overview is also one long sentence with an unclear contrast, and “Furthermore” does not clarify the sequence that follows. Group the data by year or describe each series from 2000 to 2008 in order, and use linking words to show actual relationships rather than simply to begin sentences.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary, including “dramatic,” “steadily,” “soared,” and “experienced substantial increase,” which helps convey movement. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, for example “returing,” “dicline,” “decrese,” “climped,” and “substancial.” Some phrases are also unnatural or imprecise, such as “figures for tourists first time visiting” and “touched 10000.” These choices sometimes make the description less clear, even though the general meaning can usually be understood. Aim for accurate, conventional chart language such as “first-time visitors,” “fell to,” “rose to,” and “reached a peak of,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “while,” “after,” and “before.” The main trends are generally understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “the numbers of first time visitors were 8000, while it faced” shifts awkwardly from plural “numbers” to singular “it”; “it increase steadily” has an incorrect verb form; and “it continue to rose” combines incompatible verb forms. There are also problems with articles, agreement, and sentence punctuation, as in “first time visitors number.” Use consistent subjects and check that each verb agrees and has the correct tense or infinitive form. More accurate control of these patterns would make your varied sentences easier to follow.
