Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
You identify both visitor groups and give a relevant overview of their contrasting patterns: first-time visitors fall before rising, while returning visitors rise and then decline. Most figures and stages are accurately reported, including the fall from 8,000 to 4,000 and the returning visitors’ increase from 3,000 to 10,000. However, the overview says first-time visitors “consistently increased” before correcting itself, which makes the main trend unclear; the fall occurs in the first two years, not “the first two decades.” The account also omits the first-time series’ approximate 9,300 figure in 2006 and the returning series’ peak of about 15,200. More precise overview wording and a clearer comparison of the final values would make the report more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear four-part structure: introduction, overview, and separate descriptions of the two series. Its sequence is generally easy to follow, and phrases such as “On the other hand” and “after which” help signal contrast and chronology. Some linking is less controlled, however. The overview’s “consistently increased, except…” is internally confusing, and repeated formulations such as “the number of… visitors” make the progression feel somewhat mechanical. The final paragraph also places both series in one long block, with several time phrases that interrupt the flow. Keep the overview concise and accurate, then use one focused paragraph per series or a direct comparison to make relationships between the trends clearer.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use an adequate range of task-related vocabulary, including “drastic reduction,” “substantial rise,” “increased steadily,” and “significant drop.” These choices communicate the broad movements, and the meaning remains clear. Some expressions are imprecise or repetitive: “first time visitors” is repeated often, while “fluctuated” is not quite accurate for the returning series, which rises steadily to 2006 before falling. “In the first two decades” is also an unsuitable time expression for a two-year interval. Aim for more precise trend language and natural collocations, such as “declined sharply between 2000 and 2002” and “reached a peak.” This would add flexibility and precision without relying on repeated intensifiers.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including the relative clause “who either visited… or had visited it more than once” and the time clause “after which a significant drop can be seen.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical choices reduce precision. In the opening, “between 2000 to 2008” combines two different preposition patterns; use “between 2000 and 2008.” The phrase “in the years from 2000-2002” is also awkwardly constructed, and “the first two decades” does not fit the period described. Several long sentences would benefit from clearer clause boundaries and more direct syntax. Greater consistency in prepositions and more controlled sentence construction would strengthen accuracy while preserving your range.
