Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify both visitor groups and include several relevant figures, such as about 8,000 first-time visitors in 2000 and around 4,000 in 2002. However, the response only partially reports the graph’s main features. The overview says returning visitors were greater throughout, but this is inaccurate: first-time visitors were higher in 2000. The first-time series rises to about 12,000 by 2008, while returning visitors peak at roughly 15,000 in 2006 and then fall to about 13,000; these key comparisons are not clearly or accurately presented. The account of returning visitors also skips the 2002–2004 movement and misstates the final value. The response is 16 words below the required minimum. Include a precise overview and report the main turning points and end values.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the two visitor groups. This helps the reader identify the topic and follow the broad sequence of years. However, progression is limited, and some linking is repetitive or unclear. For example, “After that” and “After this” are used several times, while the returning-visitors paragraph moves from 2000–2004 to 2006 and then the final decline without clearly anchoring each change to a year. The sentence beginning “While in 2002” is also left as a fragment, interrupting the flow. Organise each series chronologically, use clear year references, and vary linking expressions so that comparisons between the lines are easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough basic vocabulary to communicate the topic and some changes, including “declined,” “increased steadily,” and “abruptly.” However, the range is limited and several choices are unsuitable for describing visitor statistics. “Spectators” does not mean visitors, and “people moved to this island for tourism” suggests relocation rather than visiting. “The ones who visited” is also vague, while “return visitor graph” and “returned visitors” are repetitive and awkward. These choices sometimes make the intended meaning less precise, even though the general subject remains understandable. Use standard data-reporting terms consistently, such as “first-time visitors,” “returning visitors,” “rose,” “fell,” and “reached,” and avoid substituting unrelated nouns.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts some longer sentence forms, for example, “After that the graph increased steadily in 2004, 2006, till 2008,” but control is inconsistent and the range remains limited. There are frequent errors in sentence construction and agreement: “While in 2002” is a fragment, and “there number increased” should use a possessive determiner. The phrase “between year 2000 to 2008” has an incorrect preposition pattern, and “After this, the slow increase…” lacks a finite verb. Punctuation and spacing are also uneven, with missing spaces after full stops and commas. Practise complete sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check articles, agreement, prepositions, and punctuation when editing.
