The line graph shows the number of first time visitors and returning visitors who visited Caryl Island from 2000 to 2008.
Student answer (Band 4.5)
The graph is showing that 8000 people came to the Caryl Island on year 2000.And the number of people which were coming to the Island decreased in year 2001 and in 2002 ,about 4000 people came to the Island.Which mean the total number of people who visited Island decreased from 8000 to 4000.But the number of people who were visiting the Island suddenly increased. And in 2004, It's reached 6000 ,meaning 2000 more people came to Island since 4000.And from 2004 to 2006 , the number of people increased up to 9000.And from 2004 ,the number of people visiting the Island were increasing rapidly and reached and on 2008 , it's reached 12000.
The first paragraph is telling all about people who visited Island on that specific year. And now,I will tell about the people who returned on that specific year.On year 2000, 5900 people out of 8000 returned to their homeland. And in 2002, 10,000 people returned from Island and it's increased rapidly. But after 2007, the number of people returning from Island decreased.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You identify some relevant movements in the first-time visitor figures, including the fall to about 4,000 in 2002 and the subsequent rise to roughly 12,000 by 2008. However, the response only minimally covers the graph: it does not give a clear overview comparing both visitor groups, and the returning-visitor account is brief and partly inaccurate. For example, about 3,000—not 5,900—returned in 2000, and the graph shows a decline from 2006 to 2008, not a fall after 2007. The statement that first-time visitors decreased in 2001 is unsupported because the graph gives data only for selected years. Select the main trends for both groups, report their approximate values accurately, and summarise their contrasting patterns.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is some organisation: the response first discusses first-time visitors and then signals a shift with “now, I will tell about the people who returned.” This helps the reader recognise the two series. However, the first section repeats “the number of people” and “the Island” and moves through individual years without a clear overview or a strong progression from main features to supporting details. Linking phrases such as “And from 2004” are repetitive, while “after 2007” is unclear because the graph has no 2007 data point. Use a concise overview, then group the figures by series or by contrasting trends, with clear references to the years and data.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, relying heavily on “people,” “number,” “came,” and “increased.” Some trend language is relevant, such as “decreased,” “increased rapidly,” and “reached,” but several choices are imprecise for describing this graph. “Returned to their homeland” changes the meaning: the chart counts returning visitors to the island, not people going home. “Came to the Island” is also repeated where “visited” or “visitor numbers” would be more concise. Build a more varied set of accurate terms for describing figures and trends, and use collocations that preserve what the data actually represents.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, and the main direction of several trends remains understandable. However, errors recur in sentence boundaries, tense, agreement, articles, and punctuation. For example, “The graph is showing that 8000 people came … on year 2000.And” has an awkward progressive form, a missing space after the full stop, and an incorrect time expression. “the number of people who were visiting … were increasing” has subject–verb disagreement, while “It's reached” is not an appropriate tense for a completed year in the graph. Several sentences also begin with “And,” and punctuation around clauses is inconsistent. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and check sentence boundaries, articles, and agreement.
