Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You cover both visitor groups across the full period and give a clear overview of their contrasting patterns: first-time visitors fall before rising, while returning visitors climb and then decline. Most figures are accurately reported, including the starting values and the 2002 and 2004 points. The final figures are also close to the chart’s approximate readings. To make the report more fully developed, highlight the key comparison that returning visitors overtake first-time visitors by 2002 and remain higher throughout, and identify the returning-visitors peak in 2006 before the fall. This would make the main features and comparisons more explicit rather than relying mainly on a year-by-year account.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs describing each visitor group. This makes the information easy to follow, and transitions such as “In contrast,” “After 2002,” and “While” help signal relationships. The organisation is effective, though the linking can feel mechanical because several sentences repeat the same year-by-year pattern and begin with similar time markers. Some connections are also awkward, such as “But it decrease and to 4000 visitors,” which interrupts the flow. Use a wider range of comparisons and combine related data points—for example, directly contrast the two groups in 2002 and 2006—to create smoother progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of trend vocabulary, including “fall sharply,” “upward trend,” “surged,” and “skyrocketed,” so the main movements are generally clear. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations are noticeable, including “illustrats,” “biginning,” “experance,” and “hit its higher visitors.” Some wording is also repetitive, particularly “the number of visitors,” and “new visitors” is less precise than the chart’s category of first-time visitors. Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations, while varying the language used to describe increases, decreases, and peaks. The suggestions below offer more precise alternatives for several phrases.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including contrast with “In contrast” and clauses beginning with “after.” However, errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships difficult to interpret. Examples include “the number of new visitors fall,” “it face an upward trend,” and “the number of visitors reach,” where subject–verb agreement and verb forms are inaccurate. The sentence “But it decrease and to 4000 visitors” is also structurally incomplete, while missing spaces and inconsistent capitalisation affect punctuation and readability. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and correctly inflected verb, and check past-tense consistency when describing the historical data.
