Student answer (Band 5.0)
The line chart illustrates the amount of individuals who visited Carly Island former and later between 2000 and 2008.
On the whole, the figure shows a gradual rise in amount of first time visitors, then drop back after reaching at the highest point. The line in blue displays a dramtic decline for the tourists who arrived back before a steady flow to the top. Moreover, the both lines meet at the third of the eighth point.
By 2000, the number of tourists who visited first were two times more than those who departured. After facing a huge decrease, the amount of initial visitors was gone modestly upward. In comparison with those who return, previous tourists are in high quantity roughly 14000. In 2006, both categories of tourists were reached at peak. In the end of 2008, the later divison of visitors presented a slight fall up to 13000. While, the other category going to the top just over 12000.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify both visitor groups and describe several broad movements, including the fall in first-time visitors after 2000 and the rise in returning visitors. However, the overview is not consistently accurate: first-time visitors do not peak and then fall; they rise from 4,000 in 2002 to about 11,800 in 2008. Returning visitors peak in 2006, then decline. The claim that the lines meet is also incorrect; they do not intersect at any plotted year. Some comparisons are unclear or inaccurate, such as saying first-time visitors were twice the returning figure in 2000, when 8,000 is more than twice 3,000. Select the main trends accurately and support them with clear, relevant figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic structure, with an opening, an overview, and a paragraph containing year-specific details. It also attempts to connect ideas using phrases such as “On the whole,” “In comparison,” and “In the end.” However, progression is difficult to follow because several statements are unclear or conflict with the chart, and references such as “the third of the eighth point” and “the later division” do not identify the data clearly. The overview also combines trends in a confusing way. Organise the report by visitor group or by the main changes over time, and use precise references to years and categories so that each comparison follows logically.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some task-related vocabulary, including “decline,” “upward,” “peak,” and “visitors,” and you attempt variation with phrases such as “initial visitors” and “previous tourists.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make the meaning difficult to understand. For example, “amount of individuals” is unsuitable for a count of people, “departured” is not the correct form, and “steady flow to the top” is vague. There are also spelling errors such as “dramtic.” Prefer precise chart language and consistent labels: use “number of visitors,” “first-time visitors,” “returning visitors,” “rose,” “fell,” and “reached a peak.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast beginning “While,” but grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes obscure the intended meaning. Examples include “the figure shows a gradual rise in amount,” “visitors who visited first were,” and “both categories of tourists were reached at peak.” These show problems with articles, sentence construction, and verb forms. The final sentence beginning “While” is also incomplete, and several clauses lack a clear subject or correctly formed verb. Build reliable simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses. Check subject–verb structure and tense, for example: “The number of first-time visitors rose to about 12,000 by 2008.”
