Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two visitor groups and describe their broad movement, including the sharp rise in returning visitors and the later increase in first-time visitors. However, several key details are inaccurate or unclear: first-time visitors finish at about 11,800, not 12,000 exactly, while returning visitors peak at about 15,200 in 2006, not 150,000. The overview also says returning visitors were “lesser” initially, although they were lower only in 2000 and then exceeded first-time visitors from 2002 onward. The response reports some relevant features, but the inaccurate peak and imprecise comparisons limit how fully it summarises the graph. Check figures carefully and make the overall trends and crossover explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, an overview and separate descriptions of the two visitor groups. This gives the reader a basic route through the information. However, the overview is repeated at the end, and the progression between paragraphs is not always clear: the final paragraph restates an earlier comparison rather than adding a new feature. Linking phrases such as “On the other hand” are used, but the contrast is not consistently helpful because both series are being described over time. Some sequencing is also awkward, as in “Late the growth became slow.” Organise the report into a concise overview followed by logically ordered details, and avoid repeating the same summary.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “decline,” “rise,” “reached,” and “outnumbers,” so the main trends can generally be understood. However, the range is limited and several choices or forms are inaccurate: “lesser” is not natural for comparing visitor numbers, “top numbers” is imprecise, and “grew exponentially” overstates the pattern shown. There are also spelling errors such as “grapgh,” “begining,” and “vistors,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, conventional graph language and check spelling. For example, use “was lower than” for a comparison, “peaked at” for a maximum, and “increased sharply” rather than “grew exponentially” when describing a steep rise.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including time clauses such as “then started to decline after that reaching a lowest of 4000 in 2002.” The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but errors in agreement, articles, tense and sentence construction are noticeable. For example, “The grapgh compare” needs a singular verb, and “from the year 2000 to 2008” would be more naturally formed as “from 2000 to 2008.” The phrase “it began to rise gradually every year and reached” also needs clearer tense and reference, while “Late the growth became slow” is not a well-formed sentence. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and use varied but controlled sentence patterns, with careful punctuation.
