Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You cover both visitor groups and describe their broad movements: first-time visitors fall before rising, while returning visitors climb to a peak and then decline. Several figures are close to the graph, including 8,000 and 4,000 for first-time visitors and about 3,000 and 10,000 for returning visitors. However, the overview is not clearly separated from the details, and the final comparison is inaccurate: first-time visitors finish at about 11,800, not 12,000 exactly, while returning visitors end at about 13,400, rather than 13,000. The statement that first-time visitors “go just 12000 in 2000 to 2008” also obscures their overall rise from 8,000 to nearly 12,000. Select the main trends and give a clear, accurate overview before reporting key figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response follows a generally understandable order, moving through the years for first-time visitors and then discussing returning visitors. Phrases such as “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” signal a contrast and an ending. However, the organisation is mostly one continuous block, and the repeated year-by-year narration does not build towards a clear overview. Some links are awkward or unclear, as in “The 2004 again start to grow visitors” and “Other side,” which make relationships between ideas harder to follow. Use separate paragraphs for an overview and the supporting details, and connect the two series through direct comparisons. This would give the report clearer progression and reduce reliance on basic, sometimes inaccurate linking phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “decrease,” “grow,” “jumped,” and “low,” so the reader can identify the general direction of change. However, the range is limited and several choices or combinations are unnatural, such as “increase fastly,” “most grew,” and “his quantity come back.” Repetition of “visitors” and “start” also makes the account less precise. Aim for standard graph-reporting collocations, for example, “rose sharply,” “reached a peak,” and “fell slightly.” Check spelling and word forms as well: “stoped” should be “stopped,” and “than” should be “then” when describing sequence. More accurate, varied trend language would make the figures easier to interpret.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
Most sentences use simple structures, and the basic sequence of changes is usually understandable. There are attempts to link clauses, for example, “after that in 2002 visitors decrease 4000,” but verb forms and sentence construction are often inaccurate. Examples include “The 2004 again start to grow,” “returning visitors in 2000 was,” and “his returning visitors start counting,” where tense, agreement, or sentence structure is faulty. Articles and prepositions are also frequently missing or misplaced, as in “visited the caryl island” and “go near the 15000.” Capitalisation and punctuation need attention too. Practise past-tense reporting and complete sentence patterns, such as “The number of first-time visitors fell to 4,000 in 2002, then rose to 6,000 in 2004.”
