Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two visitor groups and describe several key movements, including the first-time visitors’ fall from 8,000 to 4,000 and the returning visitors’ rise to a peak of about 15,000 in 2006. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: “the number of both visitors i the number of first time tourists was higher than returning visitors” contradicts the graph, since returning visitors outnumbered first-time visitors from 2002 onward. The first-time series also ends at about 11,800, not 12,000, and the response does not clearly compare the groups across the period. The response is 144 words, below the required 150. To improve, give a precise overview of the contrasting trends and check that each comparison matches the data.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs describing each visitor group. This makes the information reasonably easy to follow, and time markers such as “in 2000,” “by 2002,” and “by the end of period” help establish sequence. However, the overview is difficult to interpret, particularly “the number of both visitors i the number of first time tourists,” and “Moving to the next” is an awkward transition. Repeated use of “This number” also makes the descriptions feel mechanical and can obscure which series is being discussed. Use a concise overview, clearer transitions such as “Regarding returning visitors,” and vary references by naming the group when needed.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “diminish,” “surged,” “increase,” and “decline,” and the reader can generally understand the intended changes. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word choices are noticeable, as in “vistitors,” “gustets,” “esclate,” “fell,” and “atleast.” Some expressions are also unnatural or imprecise: “faced a great fell,” “reached on highest point,” and “the number of returning visitors number.” These issues limit clarity and show that trend vocabulary is not yet controlled consistently. Aim for accurate, conventional collocations and proofread spelling; for example, use “fell sharply,” “rose considerably,” and “reached a peak” to describe the data.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response includes simple statements and some attempts to connect events, such as “After facing a great fell, this number surged significantly.” However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships unclear. Examples include “The figures is measured,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “the number of returning gustets were,” which also has agreement problems. Several sentences omit or misuse articles and prepositions, as in “visited the Caryl Island” and “reached on highest point”; verb forms are also inconsistent in “This number increase” and “this number decline.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and subject–verb agreement, and build longer sentences only when you can control their structure.
