Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You identify the two visitor groups and describe their main movements, including the first-time visitors’ fall to about 4,000 in 2002 and subsequent rise, and returning visitors’ peak around 2006 followed by a decline. Your overview also notes the changing lead, although it is inaccurate to say first-time visitors were more dominant in 2000: they were higher then, but returning visitors led from 2002 onward and remained ahead in 2008. The claim that both series had “slight fluctuations” is too general and understates the substantial changes shown. To strengthen the response further, make the overview more precise and compare the series at key points, especially their crossover after 2000 and their different end-of-period levels.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the two visitor groups. This gives the reader a generally coherent route through the data. However, some connections are awkward or unclear, particularly “overall…the graph for both visitors faced slight fluctuations…Where,” and the sentence beginning “While on the other hand.” These linking expressions do not consistently show the relationship between ideas, and “after it it declined” has unclear referencing. The paragraphing also groups the trends by series but could make comparisons more explicit. Use a concise overview, then organise the details around the contrasting movements and crossover, with clear links such as “By contrast” and “Meanwhile.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant trend vocabulary, including “rapid decline,” “positive growth,” “experienced a rapid growth,” and “declined,” so the main movements are understandable. However, several choices are imprecise or repetitive: “amount of…visitors” is not the natural expression for people counted, and “takes the lead” and “more dominant” are less precise than language describing which group had more visitors. “Faced slight fluctuations” also does not accurately convey the scale of the changes. Spelling errors such as “thime” and “returing,” along with inconsistent capitalisation of “Caryl Island,” reduce control. Aim for accurate, varied terms such as “number,” “rose,” “fell,” “peaked,” and “exceeded,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “as,” “while,” and “which.” However, control is uneven, and several sentence structures contain errors. For example, “The first time visitors in 2000 was” has a subject–verb agreement problem, while “the number…were more dominant” also mismatches the singular subject “number” with a plural verb. The opening has a duplicated “of,” and punctuation is often missing after introductory phrases, as in “overall, the graph.” Some sentence fragments or awkwardly joined clauses, such as “Which was still more than the first time visitors,” affect accuracy. Build reliable complete sentences first, checking agreement, articles, and punctuation before adding subordinate clauses.
