Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify the two visitor groups and include some relevant figures, such as about 8,000 first-time visitors and 3,000 returning visitors in 2000, followed by a sharp rise in returning visitors. However, the overview misstates the main trends: returning visitors did not increase steadily, as they fell from about 15,200 in 2006 to 13,400 in 2008, and first-time visitors did not fall at the end; they rose to about 11,800. The claim that first-time visitors were the larger group by 2008 is also incorrect. Several later figures and dates are confused, so the report only partially presents the key information. Compare both series accurately and summarise their overall directions before adding selected details.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an identifiable paragraph structure, with an introduction, an overview and two detail paragraphs. You also use contrast markers such as “However” and “In contrast” to compare the series. Nevertheless, the progression becomes difficult to follow in the final paragraph: “From 2002 ownwards” is followed by figures assigned to conflicting years, and “In the following before falling in 2002” does not make the sequence clear. The overview also conflicts with the data later reported. Use one paragraph for each clear stage or series, and order the years consistently from 2000 to 2008. Check that linking phrases express the relationship between the figures accurately rather than interrupting the timeline.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “increased dramatically,” “fell sharply,” and “declined slightly,” which helps describe movement. However, the range is limited and several word choices or forms make the report harder to understand. “The number of visitors and returning” is unclear, while “accounted to” and “returning figures” are not natural ways to report visitor totals. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “vistors,” “reacging,” “ownwards,” and “figyures.” Use precise terms such as “first-time visitors,” “returning visitors,” and “the figure stood at,” and proofread spelling carefully. More accurate vocabulary would make the comparisons clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast structure beginning “However” and a time clause with “while.” However, errors occur frequently and sometimes make the timeline or meaning difficult to interpret. For example, “the number of visitors fell sharply during to around 3500” has a faulty construction, and “In the following before falling in 2002 it accounted for 5,500 to 6,000” is not a complete, clear sentence. The final clause, “it declined slightly to the 13000 in 2006,” also has an unclear reference and incorrect year sequence. Practise forming complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and check articles, prepositions, punctuation and tense consistency.
