Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You identify both visitor groups and report several relevant figures, including the first-time visitors’ fall from 8,000 to 4,000 and the returning visitors’ rise from about 3,000 to 12,000 by 2004. However, the overview is unclear and does not accurately summarise the main patterns: first-time visitors finish at about 11,800, not 13,000, while returning visitors peak at roughly 15,200 in 2006 before falling to 13,400. The response also gives limited comparison between the two series and leaves out important stages in their trends. At 127 words, it is 23 words below the required minimum, which contributes to the task being only partially developed. Add a clear overview and report the key peak, decline and ending figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic structure: an opening paragraph followed by separate paragraphs about first-time and returning visitors. This grouping helps the reader identify which series is being discussed. However, progression within the paragraphs is limited, and the account does not consistently guide the reader through the years. Connectors such as “Firstly,” “In addition,” and “Following that” are used, but some are mechanical or do not clarify the relationship between details. For example, “In addition It again rise till 2008” does not clearly link the 2002 low to the later increase. Use a more systematic chronological sequence and clearer comparisons between the groups, with paragraphing that separates the overview from the detailed trends.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a small set of relevant terms, including “number,” “returning,” “rise,” and “increase,” so the general subject is understandable. However, the vocabulary is limited and repetitive, and several word choices or spellings make the description less clear. “Visiters,” “resturn,” and “peoples” are inaccurate forms, while “return for the first time” confuses first-time and returning visitors. Phrases such as “the returning side” and “the number of returning peoples” are also unnatural for describing a graph. Build a more precise range of trend language, such as “fell,” “recovered,” “reached a peak,” and “declined,” and use the chart’s category labels consistently. This would make the report clearer and more appropriately academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response relies mainly on simple clauses and shows limited control of sentence forms. Errors occur frequently in verb agreement and tense, as in “The line graph illustrate” and “the number gradually incline,” and in constructions such as “after 2 years … it drop to 4000.” Articles and prepositions are also problematic in “people visit to Carly Island,” while the opening sentence does not form a clear grammatical description of the two groups. Some longer sentences are attempted, but they are often joined awkwardly, for example “Where in 2000 almost 3000 return…” Use complete sentences with consistent past-tense verbs, and practise combining clauses with accurate connectors. Careful proofreading for agreement, articles and punctuation would improve readability.
