Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

You cover both visitor groups and provide a clear overview of their contrasting patterns: first-time visitors fell initially and then rose, while returning visitors increased to a peak before declining. Most figures are accurately reported, including the first-time total of 8,000 in 2000 and about 12,000 in 2008, and the returning-visitors peak around 15,000 in 2006. The opening overview says both groups increased overall, which is broadly supported, though it could be more precise by highlighting that returning visitors remained higher after 2000. The 2004 and 2006 figures for first-time visitors are not described, so the middle of that trend is less fully supported. More selective comparisons and a clearer account of the gap between the groups would strengthen the report.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response is organised into a clear introduction, overview and two body paragraphs, with each body paragraph focusing on one visitor category. This gives the information a logical progression, and linking phrases such as “Overall,” “After that” and “On the other hand” help signal relationships between ideas. The contrast between the two series is easy to follow. To make the cohesion more flexible, avoid relying on repeated references such as “That number” and “This number”; use the visitor category or a more precise reference instead. The overview could also connect the two trends more directly, rather than presenting them mainly as separate descriptions. Overall, the organisation is clear, with some room for more varied and precise linking.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to describe movement, including “dropped,” “grew gradually,” “increased significantly” and “peaked.” These choices communicate the main trends, and the meaning remains clear. However, some word choices and collocations are imprecise: “travellers” and “guests” are used where the graph refers to visitors, and “dropped into half” is not a natural way to describe a fall by 50%. There are also spelling errors in “retuning” and inconsistent forms such as “first time” and “first-time.” Repeated use of “number” and “this number” limits flexibility. More accurate trend vocabulary and consistent use of the graph’s terminology would make the description more precise and natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and more complex sentence forms, including the contrast in “The number of first time visitors dropped in 2002, whereas…” and the time clause “when it reached around 15000.” Most sentences are understandable, and errors rarely obscure the intended meaning. Some grammatical inaccuracies remain, however. In the introduction, “in between 2000 to 2008” uses an incorrect preposition pattern; write “between 2000 and 2008.” In the overview, “returning visitors keep increasing” should use past tense (“kept increasing”), and “both Increased” has unnecessary capitalisation. The phrase “That number dropped into half” also needs a different grammatical construction, such as “fell by half.” Greater consistency in past-tense reporting and more accurate sentence patterns would improve control.
