Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify both visitor groups and include some figures, such as 8,000 first-time visitors and 3,000 returning visitors in 2000. However, the account is incomplete and several key comparisons are missing: first-time visitors fell to 4,000 in 2002 before rising to about 11,800, while returning visitors peaked at about 15,200 in 2006 and then declined. The overview also incorrectly says returning visitors rose continuously, and the claim that first-time numbers were “very high initially” does not capture their later recovery. The response is 142 words, below the 150-word minimum; the 12 words copied from the prompt were not counted. Include a clear, accurate overview and report the main turning points and end values.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
There is a basic attempt to organise the response with an introduction, an overview, and two body paragraphs, and phrases such as “First of all” and “Second of all” signal a change of topic. However, progression within the paragraphs is weak: the first body paragraph lists years without giving the figures for most of them, and the final sentence groups three years together without explaining the changes. Repeated use of “While” and “Whereas” does not always create a clear contrast, and some sentences are fragments, making relationships between ideas harder to follow. Group the two series by their trends, use clear comparisons, and connect each figure to the point it supports.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response uses relevant basic terms, including “first time visitors,” “returning visitors,” and “quantity,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, vocabulary is repetitive and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “the quantity of visitors in first time,” “very high from first time visitors,” and “contniously up.” Frequent spelling errors—including “returninig,” “vistiors,” and “considerbaly”—also reduce clarity and control. Use standard chart language consistently, such as “number of visitors,” “rose,” “fell,” “reached a peak,” and “was higher than.” Check spelling carefully, especially for words repeated throughout the report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You attempt some longer sentences and use time references, but most sentence patterns are simple or incomplete, and grammatical errors occur frequently. For example, “between 2000 to 2008” uses an incorrect preposition pattern; write “between 2000 and 2008.” “While, In 2000…” is not a complete sentence, and “the quantity of first time visitors was 8000” shows awkward article and noun-phrase construction. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in “In 2000” after a comma and the missing space after the full stop in the overview. Practise complete subject–verb sentences and accurate comparative structures, then proofread articles, prepositions, and punctuation.
