Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify several important features, including the first-time visitors’ fall to 4,000 in 2002 and the returning visitors’ peak in 2006, and you give figures for both series. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: first-time visitors peak at about 11,800 in 2008, rather than 12,000 exactly, and returning visitors rise to about 15,200 in 2006 before falling to 13,400, not 13,000. The claim that the lines intersect at 6,000 is incorrect; they cross between 2000 and 2002 at roughly 6,000, but the graph does not show an exact intersection value. The response also lacks a clear overview of the contrasting overall patterns. Select the main trends and report them accurately, rather than relying mainly on a list of figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response follows a broadly sensible order: it introduces the graph, identifies highs and lows, and then describes each visitor group. This gives the reader some organisation. However, the ideas are not clearly separated into an overview and supporting details, and several points are repeated—for example, the 2002 low and the 2006 returning-visitor peak appear more than once. Linking is also limited, with repeated use of “then” and “and,” while the final sentence about the intersection is added without a clear connection to the preceding account. Use distinct paragraphs for an overview and the detailed comparisons, and connect changes with precise transitions such as “whereas,” “by contrast,” and “after peaking.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “drop,” “rise,” “highest,” and “lowest,” so the main trends are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are imprecise or repetitive: “ratio” is not suitable for these visitor numbers, and “go higher and higher” is informal and vague. Spelling errors such as “visiter,” “returing,” and “illustarate” are noticeable and reduce the accuracy of the writing. Aim for more precise chart language and check spelling carefully. For example, describe figures as visitor numbers, say that a series “declined” or “increased,” and use “reached a peak” for the highest point.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

Most sentences use simple structures, and the reader can usually follow the intended comparisons. However, grammatical errors occur frequently and sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to interpret. For example, “The first visitor just drop one time in intial” has an incorrect verb form and an incomplete expression, while “in 2006 it drop from 15000 to 13000 in 2008” does not clearly express the timing of the rise and fall. Sentence boundaries and punctuation are also inconsistent, as in the long sequence beginning “The returing visitor was 3000.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting (“fell,” “rose,” “reached”) and divide longer descriptions into complete sentences with clear subjects and time references.
