Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0
You identify both visitor groups and report several key movements, including the fall in first-time visitors from 8,000 to 4,000 and the rise in returning visitors to a peak in 2006. However, the account is only partially accurate and the overview is unclear. First-time visitors reach about 11,800 in 2008, not 120,000, while returning visitors start at about 3,000, not 1,500. The statement that returning visitors “increase gradually” also misses their decline after 2006. The final claim that the trend shows “very good service” is unsupported by the graph. Give a concise overview of the contrasting end-of-period trends, then report the main figures accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate discussion of first-time and returning visitors, and a concluding statement. This makes the two series reasonably easy to follow. Some linking words, such as “Moreover” and “Furthermore,” help signal additions, but others are mechanical or do not express the relationship clearly; “Continuously” is awkward before the 2004 figure, and “But” begins a sentence where a clearer contrast would help. The overview is also split between the opening and conclusion, and the unsupported service comment weakens the ending. Organise the response around a clear overview followed by the two series, and use links that accurately show sequence or contrast.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a range of task-related terms, including “decreased dramatically,” “returning visitors,” and “reached,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, vocabulary is repetitive, particularly “number,” “quantity,” and “visitors,” and some choices are inaccurate or unnatural. For example, “the quantity of returning visitors increase gradually” is not a natural way to describe the trend, while “people who returned to island” is imprecise. Capitalise “Caryl Island” consistently, and avoid using “dramatically” for a change unless its scale supports that emphasis. More precise trend language and natural collocations would make the report clearer and more appropriate to an academic graph description.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, and the sequence of years is usually understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction are frequent enough to make some sentences difficult to read. Examples include “the number … increase gradually,” “the visitors who visits first time had increased,” and “the number of these visitors were increased.” The sentence “In 2006 and 2008 it was the number … were” is especially difficult to follow because its structure is incomplete and duplicated. Work on subject–verb agreement and consistent past-tense reporting, and practise building one clear sentence for each year or trend. Accurate simple structures should come before more complex ones.
