Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5
You identify both visitor groups and report several figures, including the first-time visitors’ fall from about 8,000 to 4,000 and the returning visitors’ rise from about 3,000 to 12,000 by 2004. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: returning visitors did not simply increase through 2008, as they peaked around 15,200 in 2006 before falling to about 13,400. The final year is also not the highest for both groups. The response contains 111 words, below the required 150, so the trends and comparisons are not developed sufficiently. Add a clear overview and describe the contrasting changes, including the 2006 peak and subsequent decline.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction and overview are followed by separate descriptions of first-time and returning visitors. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression is limited, and the returning-visitors paragraph ends abruptly with “In 2004, 12000 peolpes returmn,” leaving the account incomplete. Connections between points are also weak; repeated openings such as “In 2002” and “In 2004” make the report read like a list rather than a connected comparison. Use complete paragraphs, link changes with clear sequencing language, and compare the two groups at key years to create a more coherent account.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use basic task-related vocabulary such as “visitors,” “increased,” “decreased,” and “approx,” so the main subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, form, and spelling errors strain the reader: “campares,” “peoles,” “returened,” and “returmn.” Phrases such as “the visitors come more” and “the returning visitors are increased” are also unnatural for describing graph data. Aim for accurate, varied reporting language, for example “rose,” “fell,” “reached a peak,” and “declined.” Check spelling carefully and use standard forms such as “approximately” rather than “approx” in a formal report.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response relies mainly on short, simple statements, with little variety in sentence structure. Frequent errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. For example, “The first time 8000 peoples are visited” has an incorrect verb pattern, while “The returning visitors in 2000 is less” has subject–verb disagreement and an incomplete comparison. Tense is also inconsistent in “peoples will increased” and “will aslo increase,” although the graph describes past data. Practise forming accurate past-tense sentences, such as “The number of first-time visitors fell to about 4,000 in 2002,” and use complete, correctly punctuated sentences throughout.
