Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover both visitor groups and report several key figures, including the first-time visitors’ fall to about 4,000 in 2002 and the returning visitors’ peak of roughly 15,000 in 2006. However, the overview is inaccurate: first-time visitors did not decrease overall, rising from about 8,000 in 2000 to nearly 12,000 in 2008; returning visitors also ended higher than they began, despite a slight final decline. The overview should identify both overall rises and the contrasting late movements. Some details are also unclear, such as calling 8,000 the highest figure for first-time visitors, when the 2008 value is higher. A more accurate overview and clearer comparisons would make the report more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two visitor groups. This helps the reader follow the broad subject, and transitions such as “By contrast” and “Turning to the data” signal changes in focus. However, progression is weakened by the inaccurate overview and by repetitive phrasing, particularly repeated references to visitors “who were returning” from the island. Some links are awkward or do not clearly express the relationship between figures, as in “By 2004 it was slightly increased.” Organise each data paragraph around a clear trend, and use concise references such as “this figure” to avoid repetition and improve flow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “approximately,” “visitors,” “increased,” and “drop,” so the main subject is generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the report difficult to interpret. For example, “fantastic grow” is not suitable for describing a chart trend, and “visitors who were returning from Caryl Island” suggests people came back from the island rather than being repeat visitors. There are also spelling errors such as “vistors,” “amont,” and “littel.” Build a more precise set of trend expressions and check spelling and word forms before submitting.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, and the reader can usually identify the figures being discussed. However, grammatical errors are frequent, and attempts at more complex structures are often faulty. Examples include “the number of first time vistors was decreased,” where the verb form is incorrect, and “in 2002 was droped,” which lacks a clear subject and has an incorrect verb form. Agreement is also inconsistent in “the returning visitors was increased.” Articles and sentence boundaries need attention, as in “in 2000 approximately 8000,” while several sentences begin with lowercase letters. Practise accurate past-tense reporting patterns, such as “the figure fell to…” and “there were approximately…,” before adding complexity.
