Student answer (Band 5.5)

As we can see in graph, there is many fluctuations. If we talk about first time visitors, then the graph shows the drasticllay decrease from 2000 to 2002. on the other hand, graph clearly indicate rapid increase in returning visitors. from 2000 to 2002.

from 2000 to 2002, first time visitors graph squeeze from 8000 visitors to 4000 vistors. This was the red signal, as amount of visitors were decreasing. However after 2002, there is a gradually increase in first time visitors till 2008. This make a huge u-turn as from 2002 to 2008, first time visitors gear up from 4000 to 12000.

As we can see returning visitors pattern, It clearly demonstrate the rapid increase from 2000 to 2002, as there is huge amount of visitors from 2500 to 10000. However from 2002 onwards, returning visitors decrease with increasing pattern till 2006. After 2006, there is a sharp decline till 2008. This indicates the decline in returning visitors from 15000 to 13000.

In 2001, frist time visitors and returning visitors intersect with each other. At this point number of visiotrs are same 6000. In my point of view.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You identify the main contrasting trends: first-time visitors fall initially and then rise, while returning visitors increase before declining. Several figures are also reported, including the fall from 8,000 to 4,000 and the rise in returning visitors to around 15,000. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: returning visitors rise from about 3,000, not 2,500, and their values continue increasing through 2006 rather than “decrease with increasing pattern.” The claim that the lines intersect in 2001 at 6,000 is not supported by the chart, which gives data only at two-year intervals. An overview would be stronger if it clearly stated that returning visitors peaked in 2006, while first-time visitors ended at their highest level in 2008. The main features are relevant, but some are less fully and accurately presented than others.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a basic paragraph structure, moving from an opening comment to first-time visitors, returning visitors, and a final comparison. This gives the reader some organisation, and contrast markers such as “However” help signal changes. However, progression is weakened by repetition of “As we can see” and repeated descriptions of the same periods. Some links are confusing: “decrease with increasing pattern” contradicts itself, and the final “In my point of view” is disconnected from an objective chart summary. The opening also mentions fluctuations without clearly summarising the overall picture. Group the two series into a clear overview followed by focused detail paragraphs, and use linking phrases only where they clarify the relationship between trends.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant trend vocabulary, including “drastic decrease,” “rapid increase,” “gradually increase,” and “sharp decline,” so the reader can generally understand the changes being described. There are also attempts at more expressive phrases such as “huge u-turn” and “gear up,” but these are informal or imprecise for an academic graph report. “Decrease with increasing pattern” is an unclear collocation, while “red signal” does not accurately describe a fall in visitor numbers. Spelling errors such as “drasticllay,” “vistors,” “frist,” and “visiotrs” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, neutral terms such as “fell,” “rose steadily,” “peaked,” and “declined,” and check spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including clauses introduced by “if,” “as,” and “however.” The main trends are usually understandable, but grammatical control is uneven. For example, “there is many fluctuations” has an agreement error, and “graph clearly indicate” lacks the article and uses the wrong verb form. Sentence boundaries and capitalisation are also inconsistent, as in “from 2000 to 2002.” beginning a new sentence with a lowercase letter. The construction “This make a huge u-turn” also has subject–verb disagreement. Practise accurate present-tense descriptions and complete sentence structures, and use punctuation to separate ideas cleanly. More reliable control of these patterns would make your range of sentence forms clearer.
