Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify the two visitor groups and report several key movements, including the first-time visitors’ fall from about 8,000 to 4,000, and the returning visitors’ rise to a peak before declining. However, some details are inaccurate or unclear: first-time visitors reach about 11,800 in 2008, not 12,000 at an earlier point, while returning visitors peak in 2006 at roughly 15,200. The overview also says returning visitors decreased in both 2006 and 2008, although the rise continues through 2006. The final claim that returning visitors were always more numerous is incorrect for 2000. A clearer overview of the contrasting trends and more precise comparisons would make the report more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an opening, an overview-like paragraph and further detail, so there is some organisation. It also uses basic linking words such as “Overall,” “Meanwhile” and “Moreover.” However, the progression is difficult to follow because the same trends are repeated in several places, especially the first-time visitors’ fall and recovery and the returning visitors’ rise and fall. Some sentences combine several stages without clear connections, as in “graph peaked at 12000 number of tourist increased to 12000 in 2008.” References such as “the graph” and “it” are also sometimes unclear. Grouping each series’ changes once, in a logical sequence, would improve cohesion and reduce repetition.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “first time visitors,” “returning visitors,” “increased,” “decreased” and “peaked,” so the main subject is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “a initial tourists,” “after the trip of tourists,” “intense peak” and “returned to home.” Repetition of “graph,” “increased” and “number of tourist” also makes the description less precise. Choose standard chart language and vary it where appropriate—for example, describe a figure as rising, falling, reaching a peak or ending at a level. Accurate spelling of the island’s name and consistent forms such as “tourists” would also strengthen the report.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts both simple and longer sentences, but control is uneven, and errors sometimes make relationships between figures difficult to understand. For example, “from 2000 to 2002 graph fell” lacks an article, while “graph peaked at 12000 number of tourist increased” joins clauses without suitable punctuation or a conjunction. There are also problems with articles, agreement and sentence construction in “a initial tourists” and “number of tourist is increased.” Most sentences rely on similar basic patterns, with limited accurate use of more varied structures. Build shorter, complete sentences first, then connect them carefully; check articles, plural nouns, verb forms and punctuation during revision.
