Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify the two visitor groups and report several key figures, including the first-time visitors’ fall from 8,000 to 4,000 and returning visitors’ rise to about 15,000 in 2006. However, the overview is not fully accurate: returning visitors did not rise steadily throughout, as they declined by 2008, and first-time visitors rose after 2002 but peaked at about 11,800, not 12,000 exactly. The description also says first-time visitors increased “until 2008” without clearly noting the 2006 figure, and “visits and leave” confuses visiting with leaving. The response is four words below the required minimum. Include a clearer overview of both series’ contrasting end trends and develop the comparisons more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the two visitor groups. Time markers such as “In 2000,” “in 2002,” and “After that” help readers follow the chronology. However, progression is weakened by repetition: the 2000 and 2002 figures for first-time visitors appear in both the overview and the detail paragraph, while the overview’s claim that returning visitors rose steadily conflicts with the later account of their fall. Some links are awkward or incomplete, as in “which steadily to 10000.” Use each paragraph for a distinct purpose, avoid repeating figures, and connect changes with clear, accurate transitions.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “went down,” “increase,” “rose,” “steadily,” and “slightly went down,” so the main changes are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural. “Visitors who visits and leave” does not clearly describe the two categories, and “visitors leave the Island” suggests departure rather than returning visitors. There are also noticeable spelling errors, including “iseland,” “significantaly,” and “peack,” alongside imprecise phrasing such as “account for 4000.” Choose standard chart language and check spelling; for example, describe visitor numbers as rising, falling, reaching a peak, or declining.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
The response attempts both simple sentences and longer clauses, including “which dramatically decrease to its half about 4000 people in 2002.” However, grammatical errors are frequent and sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Subject–verb agreement is inconsistent in “The line graph illustrate” and “the number of visitors who visits”; tense also shifts between “went down,” “increase,” and “reaches.” Sentence construction is faulty in “which steadily to 10000,” and the opening overview sentence has unclear clause structure. Articles, plurals, and punctuation also need attention, as in “the Island” and the extra spacing after “visitors.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build complete clauses before adding subordinate clauses.
