Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify both visitor groups and give a broad overview of their contrasting patterns: first-time visits fall initially before rising, while returning visits rise and then decline. Most figures are recognisable, including 8,000 and 4,000 for first-time visitors and the returning-visitor peak around 15,000. However, the overview is unclear in places, and some details are inaccurate: first-time visitors were about 9,300 in 2006, not 10,000, and returning visitors were about 3,000 in 2000, not 2,000. The description of the final returning-visitor movement could also be more precise. The response is three words below the required 150-word minimum. Develop the overview and check figures against the graph.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two visitor groups. This helps the reader follow the main categories. However, progression within sentences and between details is sometimes difficult to follow. For example, “similar, in coming periods” does not clearly connect the 2004 figure to the later rise, and “From 2006 to 2008” introduces a change without clearly distinguishing the peak from the subsequent fall. Linking expressions such as “In contrast” are useful, but some transitions are awkward or repetitive. Use clearer sequencing language and make each paragraph move consistently from the starting figure through the intermediate years to the endpoint.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “decline,” “increased significantly,” “risen,” and “upward.” This gives you a basic range for reporting the graph. However, vocabulary is limited and several choices or spellings make the meaning less clear, such as “experieced,” “biging,” “driction,” and “accounted.” Some phrases are also unnatural for data description, including “10,000 people was gone to” and “come on 13000 visitors.” Choose standard collocations such as “the number of visitors fell,” “stood at,” and “reached a peak,” and check spelling carefully. More precise trend vocabulary would help you describe the final rise and fall without relying on vague wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, and the overall meaning can usually be understood. However, errors are frequent, and longer constructions are often not controlled. For example, “the visitors was decreased” has an incorrect verb form, while “10,000 people was gone” has subject–verb disagreement and an unsuitable tense construction. Articles and sentence boundaries also need attention, as in “As of the first visitors, 8000 accounted in 2000,” which lacks a clear grammatical structure. Aim first for accurate simple comparisons, such as “The figure fell to 4,000 in 2002,” then add more complex sentences once the basic verb forms and agreement are secure.
