Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify both visitor groups and report several important movements, including returning visitors rising from about 3,000 to 10,000 and first-time visitors falling to around 4,000 before increasing. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: returning visitors were not consistently the highest, since first-time visitors led in 2000, and first-time visitors did not remain the lowest throughout. Some figures and periods also need correction: the first-time figure rises from 4,000 in 2002 to 6,000 in 2004, then to about 9,300 in 2006 and 11,800 in 2008; the stated increase to 12,000 from 2004 omits the intermediate trend. Give a precise overview and select the main turning points accurately.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, with an introduction, an overview, and separate descriptions of the two visitor groups. This helps the reader distinguish the trends. However, progression is not always clear because the overview makes broad claims that conflict with the details, and some comparisons are compressed or confusing. For example, “from 2000 and 2004” does not clearly express the period, while “this figure showed a grew slightly” interrupts the flow of the returning-visitors account. Linking words such as “By contrast,” “However,” and “Additionally” are attempted, but their use does not always clarify the relationship between ideas. Organise the body by series or time period and use clear, accurate references to each figure.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You attempt relevant chart vocabulary, including “jumping,” “rose dramatically,” “drop steadily,” and “returning visitors,” so the reader can generally identify the trends being described. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling errors make parts difficult to understand: “regular tourist,” “repeted tourist,” “frist visitor,” and “enroling to visited” are not suitable or accurate expressions. Some phrases are also unnecessarily wordy, such as “people who visit again.” Use consistent terms for the two categories and choose precise verbs for increases, decreases, and stability. Careful proofreading of spelling and word forms would make your descriptions clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, including clauses beginning with “By contrast” and “However,” and you use past-tense forms to describe the historical data. Nevertheless, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to make several sentences difficult to follow. For example, “the number of new visitors and regular tourist who visited” has problems with agreement and sentence construction, while “The number of returning visitors experienced a decreased” uses an incorrect grammatical pattern. In “the number of new arrivals … grew by 8000, rising from 4000 in 2004 to 12000 in 2008,” the figures and sentence structure need clearer control. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, plurals, and complete sentence patterns.
