Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You identify both visitor groups and report several key movements, including the fall in first-time visitors from 8,000 to 4,000 and the rise in returning visitors to a peak in 2006. However, the overview is unclear and partly inaccurate: returning visitors did not show “constant growing,” since they rose to 15,200 and then fell to 13,400. The later figures for first-time visitors are also overstated (the graph shows about 9,300 in 2006 and 11,800 in 2008). The response is only 104 words, below the required 150, so the summary is underdeveloped and omits a clear, accurate comparison of the two series. Add a fuller overview and describe the main stages precisely.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.0

There is a basic attempt to organise the response by introducing the graph, giving an overview, and then describing changes. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the two visitor groups are not consistently distinguished. For example, after discussing “new visitors,” the sentence beginning “there is constant increase” appears to describe returning visitors, but it again says “new visitors,” creating confusion. The overview also combines several ideas in an unclear sentence. Use separate paragraphs for the overview and the detailed trends, and group each series’ figures together. Clear time markers such as “from 2000 to 2002,” “thereafter,” and “by 2008” would help connect the comparisons more logically.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for describing data, including “decline,” “grew,” “steadily rose,” “highest level,” and “declined.” These choices show an ability to describe upward and downward movement, but the range is limited and some phrases are inaccurate or awkward, such as “slightly fluctuations,” “constant growing,” and “remain choice of more people.” Repetition of “number of new visitors” also makes the report less precise, particularly when you are discussing returning visitors. Use standard collocations such as “fluctuated slightly,” “increased steadily,” and “remained the more popular group.” Check word forms and choose labels consistently so the reader can readily distinguish first-time from returning visitors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response attempts connected sentences and some sequencing, but grammatical control is inconsistent and the sentence structures are mostly simple. Errors include “there is slightly fluctuations,” where the subject and noun form do not agree, and “the number of new visitors decline,” where the verb form is incorrect. The overview’s phrase “with constant growing and remain choice of more people” is also difficult to interpret because the clauses are not formed correctly. Capitalisation and punctuation are inconsistent, including a lowercase “there” after a full stop and a space before the opening sentence’s final period. Practise accurate past-tense reporting and build clear sentences with a subject and verb for each trend; this will make the comparisons easier to understand.
