Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify both visitor groups and report their broad movements, including the first-time visitors’ fall and recovery and the returning visitors’ rise followed by a decline. Several figures are also close to the chart, such as 8,000 in 2000 and around 15,000 for returning visitors in 2006. However, the overview is too general: saying there is a “big difference” does not explain the key contrast that returning visitors overtook first-time visitors after 2000 and remained higher. Some details are imprecise or misleading: first-time visitors reach about 11,800, not 11,999, and returning visitors rise to about 15,200 before falling to 13,400. Make the overview more informative and report the main comparisons accurately.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for the two visitor groups. Phrases such as “To begin with” and “On the other hand” help signal the shift between series, and the events are generally presented in chronological order. However, some linking is mechanical or awkward, and the opening of the first detail paragraph (“To begin with explain…”) does not form a clear transition. The overview also repeats the general idea of comparing visitor numbers without guiding the reader towards the main trend. Improve progression by grouping the key contrast in the overview, then using clear, complete topic sentences and linking changes with concise expressions such as “after falling” and “before declining.”

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “decrease,” “steadily increase,” “quantity,” and “sudden fall,” so the reader can follow the general trends. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the report awkward: “traveler visit,” “see him again,” and “gain upto” are not suitable ways to describe visitor data. Spelling and word-form errors such as “demonstrste” and “intire” also reduce precision. Aim for neutral, accurate chart language and avoid personifying the island. For example, describe people as “visitors” and use verbs such as “rose,” “fell,” “recovered,” and “peaked” to report changes clearly.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

The response attempts longer sentences to describe changes over time, but control is inconsistent, and many clauses contain errors in sentence structure, agreement, or verb forms. For example, “the chart illustrates that there is big difference” needs an article, while “in 2000 there is 8000 people” has an incorrect verb form and number agreement. The sentence beginning “To begin with explain…” is also structurally incomplete, and several clauses are joined without clear punctuation. These errors sometimes make the reader work to understand the intended meaning. Practise accurate simple past forms for completed chart periods, correct subject–verb agreement, and articles, then build longer sentences using clear conjunctions and punctuation.
