Student answer (Band 5.0)

This line graph illustrates the number of first time visitors and returnig visitors who visited Caryl Island from 2000 to 2008.

Overall, this graph shows figures of returning visitors was high from 2000 to 2008 in comparing first time visitors. But the figures of both visitors were going increas rapidly by the passage of time from 2000 to 2008.

The graph summarises that returning visitors figures fly on high like from the year 2000 it was just approximately 3000 but this figures rose and reached at 15000 in 2006 but it fell to 13000 but it still stand on high. While the graph shows figures of returning visitors were also increased but in the year 2002 it fell down to 4000 from 8000 but then it went high to 12000 approximately in the year 2008. But first time visitors numbers were still below from the figures of returning visitor.

The relevant thing is in this graph that both of figures decreased once a time but then they both wnent up and the comparison is in this graph is obvious that the first time visitors comes again after their first visit and they promoted this island among others first time visitors. So that why the figure of first time visitors remain still below the returning visitors.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You identify both visitor groups and give an overview, but the account only partly reports the graph accurately. The returning-visitor figures are broadly right: about 3,000 in 2000, a peak near 15,000 in 2006, then a decline. However, you say both groups increased over the period, although first-time visitors fell from 8,000 to 4,000 by 2002 before rising. You also misattribute the 2002 fall to returning visitors; that series rose to about 10,000, while first-time visitors fell. The claim that first-time visitors remained below returning visitors is also incorrect for 2000. The final explanation about repeat visitors promoting the island is speculation, not information shown by the graph. Focus on accurate comparisons and key turning points.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has an introduction, an overview and further detail, so there is some organisation. However, progression is difficult to follow because the body shifts between series and years without a clear structure. For example, the paragraph beginning “The graph summarises” first describes returning visitors, then says “the graph shows figures of returning visitors were also increased” while apparently referring to first-time visitors. This unclear reference makes the comparison confusing. Linking phrases such as “While” and “But” are used, but they do not consistently clarify the relationship between ideas, and “the relevant thing” introduces an unsupported conclusion rather than a graph feature. Organise the details by visitor group or by period, and use clear references to each series.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some task-relevant vocabulary, including “figures,” “approximately,” “rose,” and “fell,” and the reader can generally identify the topic. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are unnatural, which sometimes makes the meaning unclear. Phrases such as “fly on high,” “reached at 15000,” and “stand on high” are not suitable ways to describe a line graph. There are also spelling errors, including “returnig,” “increas,” and “wnent.” Aim for precise, conventional trend language and check spelling carefully. For example, describe a figure as rising to a peak, then declining, rather than using figurative expressions.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, but complex sentences are often faulty and errors occur frequently enough to make some comparisons hard to interpret. Examples include “figures of returning visitors was high,” where the subject and verb do not agree, and “both of visitors were going increas rapidly,” which has problems with the determiner, verb form and sentence construction. In “it fell to 13000 but it still stand on high,” the tense and verb form are inconsistent. Several sentences also run together or use unclear clauses, particularly the long sentence beginning “While the graph shows.” Practise accurate past-tense reporting, subject–verb agreement, and shorter sentence structures before adding clauses.
