Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You cover both visitor groups and include several relevant figures, such as returning visitors rising from about 3,000 to a peak of roughly 15,000 in 2006, then falling, while first-time visitors recover after 2002 and reach their highest level in 2008. However, the overview is unclear and contains inaccurate comparisons: returning visitors did not show growth throughout, since they declined after 2006, and first-time visitors were not overtaken by returning visitors in 2000; they were already higher. The claim that returning visitors had the “highest growth” also overlooks the different pattern of the two lines. Make the overview state the main contrast accurately, then support it with selected figures.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction and overview to separate descriptions of the two visitor groups. This helps the reader identify the topic and follow the broad sequence of years. However, progression is weakened by unclear or repetitive linking, including “On the other hand” and “however” where the relationships are not always clear. The overview’s comparison about being “overtaken” is also difficult to interpret, and the sentence beginning “Returning visitors stood…” contains a confusing repetition (“that was its and it also…”). Use one clear overview, group related comparisons logically, and make each sentence express a complete step in the trend.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant task vocabulary, including “declined,” “rose,” “increased,” and “highest point,” so the main movements can generally be understood. However, the range is limited and some word choices or collocations are inaccurate, such as “returning visitor saw the highest growth,” “it was overtaken,” and “first time visitors biggest fall.” Repeated use of “visitors” and “stood” also makes the description less precise. Choose verbs that clearly describe the data, such as “peaked,” “fell,” or “recovered,” and use accurate phrases for comparisons. Check singular and plural forms in expressions such as “13,000 visitors” and avoid awkward wording when describing a series.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some longer sentences and use time references to describe changes, but control is inconsistent. Errors include subject–verb agreement in “returning visitor saw,” the incomplete construction “that was its,” and the incorrect form “first time visitors were stood.” Several sentences join ideas awkwardly, particularly the overview sentence beginning “Overall” and the final sentence, where punctuation and clause boundaries are unclear. Capitalisation is also inconsistent at the start of “in 2000.” These problems sometimes make relationships between events difficult to follow. Practise accurate past-tense trend descriptions and build complex sentences with clear subjects and clauses; for example, separate the 2008 peak from the preceding rise.
