Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify both visitor groups and describe their broad movements, including the sharp rise in returning visitors after 2000 and the fall in first-time visitors in 2002. However, the overview is unclear and contains inaccurate claims: returning visitors did not start at a low point and then reach their highest figure near 14,000; they began at about 3,000, peaked at roughly 15,200 in 2006, and ended lower, at around 13,400. You also say first-time visitors reached 8,000 in 2004, whereas the chart shows about 6,000. The response therefore reports some relevant features but does not consistently select and describe the key trends accurately. State the overall contrast clearly, then support it with reliable figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic paragraph structure: an introduction, an overview, and separate paragraphs for each visitor group. This gives the reader some sense of how the information is organised. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow, and links between ideas are repetitive or unclear. Phrases such as “Now we talk about” and “Other year” do not create precise connections, while “the number reached compare the returning is lowest” obscures the comparison being made. The overview also repeats information rather than clearly summarising the main contrast. Use a more direct sequence: introduce the chart, give a concise overview, then describe each series chronologically with clear comparisons and accurate referencing.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant task vocabulary, including “line chart,” “visitors,” “increased,” and “reached,” so the topic is generally recognisable. However, the range is limited and several phrases are inaccurate or awkward, which sometimes makes the meaning difficult to understand. For example, “how much number” and “going to up side” are not natural ways to describe quantities or trends, and “the numbers started compare” does not express a clear comparison. Repetition of “number,” “reached,” and “visitors” also limits precision. Build a small set of accurate trend expressions and use them consistently, such as “rose sharply,” “peaked at,” “declined slightly,” and “stood at.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
There are attempts to form longer sentences and use time clauses, but control is weak and many sentences contain errors that make relationships between ideas hard to follow. For instance, “we have see the returning visitors started the numbers low” has problems with verb form and sentence structure, while “the number reached compare the returning is lowest” lacks a clear grammatical construction. Errors also occur with articles, agreement, and tense, as in “the caryl Island” and “the numbers reached 13000.” Most sentences rely on simple patterns, and attempts to combine ideas are often faulty. Practise writing short, complete sentences first, then add controlled clauses such as “After falling to 4,000 in 2002, the figure rose to 6,000 in 2004.”
