Student answer (Band 5.5)
The line graph demonstrates comparison between the new visitors and those visitors who revisited the Caryl Island between 2000 to 2008.
Overall, Initially the first time visitors were more than the returned visitors but after a year the revisiters amount increased dramatically.
In 2000 the new visitors number far greater then the returning visitors which, this year the count was 8000 visitors, furthermore there number decreased drastically which came to the 4000 visitors in 2002. After 2002 the number of new visitors increaseD. So in 2004 it reached to the 6000 new visitors approximately, and in 2006 they reached to the 8000 new comers and in 2000 there was the most number of visitors recorded which was arround 12000.
If we talk about the returning visitors there number was less than new visitors in 2000 which was arround 2500 but there number elevated and surpassed the new visitors numbers and counted upto 10000. the same trend were followed by visitors between 2004 and 2006 and reached more then 14000 but in 2008 the number fell to approximately 13000.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You cover both visitor groups and identify the broad pattern: returning visitors rose and then fell, while first-time visitors recovered after an early decline. However, the overview is not fully accurate: first-time visitors were higher only in 2000, not “after a year”; returning visitors overtook them by 2002. Some figures also need closer reporting. For example, first-time visitors were about 9,300 in 2006 and 11,800 in 2008, rather than 8,000 and a peak in “2000.” The returning total was about 15,200 in 2006, then fell to 13,400. These inaccuracies and the unclear overview limit how fully the main features are reported. State the overall comparison precisely, then select accurate key figures.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a basic structure, moving from an introduction and overview to separate descriptions of the two visitor groups. This gives the reader a general route through the information. However, progression is weakened by unclear references and awkward links, such as “which, this year” and “there number,” and the repeated use of “After 2002” and “and” makes the account feel list-like. The overview also says “after a year,” although the graph’s next point is 2002, which disrupts the timeline. Use clearer paragraphing and connect the series through direct comparisons—for example, explain that returning visitors overtook first-time visitors in 2002 and remained higher thereafter.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing trends, including “decreased,” “elevated,” “surpassed,” and “fell,” so the main movements are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several choices are inaccurate or unnatural for a graph report: “revisiters amount,” “new comers,” and “the most number of visitors” are not suitable collocations. “Dramatically” also overstates the change without a clear need. Spelling and word-form slips such as “arround” and “upto” further reduce control. Aim for precise, conventional expressions such as “the number of returning visitors,” “first-time visitors,” “rose to,” and “reached a peak.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences and use past-tense forms to describe the historical data, but control is inconsistent. Errors occur in basic agreement and sentence construction, for example “the same trend were followed” and “there number was less,” while “between 2000 to 2008” uses an incorrect preposition pattern. Several sentences are joined with commas where a full stop or clearer clause structure is needed, as in “which, this year the count was 8000 visitors, furthermore…”. Capitalisation is also inconsistent. These frequent problems sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then add subordinate clauses while checking agreement, tense, and punctuation.
