Student answer (Band 5.5)
The following line graph illustrates the visitors who go to the Caryl Island for the first time and visitors go for second time. The graph presents number of people on y-axis and the year in which they go on x-axis.
On one hand, there are individuals going for the first time from 2000 to 2008. The blue line in the given graph represents those people.Almost 8000 thousand people in 2000 went to the Island and the number of the visitors decline in 2002. Although, there were less people went to the island in 2002 ,the number raised in from 2002 to 2008.
On the other hand red line symbolized returning visitors from 2000 to 2008. The individuals from 2000 to 2002 increased but there is a curve between 10000 to 12000 which means people went in this range. The people from 2004 to 2006 increased as compared to the first time visitors, however there is declined in the population from 2006 to 2008.
The returning visitors had a huge increase in number as compared to the first time visitors.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
You identify both visitor groups and describe the broad pattern: first-time visits fall initially and then rise, while returning visits increase before declining. You also note that returning visitors generally outnumber first-time visitors, which is an important comparison. However, the overview is not clearly separated or sufficiently precise, and several key figures are missing or unclear. For example, “Almost 8000 thousand” misstates the 2000 figure, and the description of the 2002–2004 returning-visitor period as “a curve between 10000 to 12000” does not clearly report the rise. Include a concise overview of the main trends and use accurate approximate figures to support the comparisons.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction followed by separate paragraphs for first-time and returning visitors, then a final comparison. This makes the two series easy to distinguish. However, progression within the paragraphs is sometimes unclear, and linking phrases such as “On one hand” and “On the other hand” feel mechanical rather than showing precise relationships. The final sentence repeats a comparison already implied earlier instead of adding a clear summary. Some references, such as “there is a curve,” do not make clear which values or period are being discussed. Improve cohesion by organising the body chronologically or by trend, using clear time references, and ending with a concise overview of the key contrast.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant vocabulary for describing a graph, including “decline,” “increased,” “returning visitors,” and “represents.” However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, sometimes making the data difficult to interpret. “Visitors who go for second time” is less natural and precise than “returning visitors,” while “the number raised” and “there is a curve between 10000 to 12000” do not express the trends clearly. “Population” is also not the appropriate term for visitor numbers. Build a more accurate set of trend expressions, such as “fell,” “rose steadily,” “peaked at,” and “dropped slightly,” and use them with the relevant years and figures.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentences, including a contrast with “Although” and a comparison using “as compared to.” However, complex structures are often faulty, and errors in sentence formation, agreement, articles, and punctuation recur. For example, “visitors go for second time” lacks an article and has an awkward verb form; “there were less people went” combines incompatible structures; and “there is declined” uses an incorrect verb construction. There are also run-on or poorly punctuated sentences, such as “people.Almost.” Practise forming accurate past-tense sentences for completed data, and check each clause for a clear subject and verb. Use simpler, controlled structures before adding subordinate clauses.
