Student answer (Band 6.0)
While some people belive that zoos are a good entertainment for young children or even adults, I think zoos are a perfect example how we humans use animals as and entertainment tool for ourselfs and do not think about the helth conditions of animals.
One major reason is that zoos take animals out of their natural environment and place them into an artificial environment, especially in european countries. For instance, a zoo in Germany, buys several lions and take them out of their natural habitat just to build an artificial environment for the lions. However, this environment will never be the same as the real environment a lion knows. For example while a lion has unlimited place and can walk around everywhere in the wilderness, the lions is trapped in a small cages with other lions and does not have enough space to hunt or run.
Despite this, you have to keep in mind that you can not just close all zoos because the animals which live there cannot survie in the wilderness anymore. Some of them do not even know how to hunt or simply behave outside of a zoo. So zoos or the goverment need an strategy on how to deal with the animals, because the other alternitive would to kill them.
Overall, I belive that zoos should be closed to treat animals better, but it is clear that zoos have to follow strict rules how to deal with the still remaining animals. They should not just release them back to the wilderness. They should adress the issue and deal with the problem.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you support closing zoos because captivity harms animals, while recognising that animals already in zoos cannot simply be released. This addresses both the central question and an important practical complication. The discussion of restricted space and inability to hunt is relevant, and the point that some animals may not survive in the wild adds balance. However, the main argument is not fully developed: the example of a German zoo is hypothetical and does not show specific evidence of harm, and the claim that zoos should close is not weighed against possible conservation or breeding benefits. Explain how animals could be cared for after closure and support your claims with a more concrete example to develop the response more fully.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, the next paragraph explains the effects of captivity, a further paragraph considers the difficulty of releasing zoo animals, and the conclusion restates your position. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “Despite this,” and “Overall” help signal the stages of the argument. This is a clear foundation, and the paragraphs generally have distinct purposes. To make progression more fluent, connect the hypothetical lion example more directly to the broader claim about animal welfare, and avoid repeating the same conclusion that zoos should close without adding a final implication. Some references, such as “this environment” and “the problem,” could be more precise about what they refer to.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “natural environment,” “artificial environment,” “natural habitat,” “wilderness,” and “hunt.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and phrases such as “strict rules” and “survive in the wilderness” show an attempt to express practical consequences. However, the range and control are uneven: several spelling errors (“belive,” “helth,” “survie,” “alternitive”) are noticeable, and some combinations are unnatural, such as “a good entertainment” and “an entertainment tool.” Repetition of “environment” and “animals” also limits flexibility. Build a more precise range around captivity, animal welfare, and conservation, and check spelling and collocations carefully so that your meaning sounds more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and more complex structures, including the contrast introduced by “Despite this” and the clause “because the animals which live there cannot survive in the wilderness anymore.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. For example, “a zoo in Germany, buys” has an unnecessary comma, while “the lions is trapped” has subject–verb disagreement and an incorrect plural pattern. In “the other alternative would to kill them,” the verb construction is incomplete; write “would be to kill them.” Articles and sentence construction also need attention in “a small cages.” Practise checking agreement, articles, and complete verb patterns, while retaining your attempts at complex sentences.
