Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that zological gardens should be closed as there is no further need of it. I completely disagree with this statement because they are used as a entertaiment purpose and also provide safe shelter for variety of animals.

The foremost argument to justify my stand is that zological gardens are providing safe and immucualte environment to animals. It is often seen that variety of animals that were used to live in forest, are becoming extinct. A significant number of animals are unable to survive in hursh environment in jungles. So, this is the main reason why zoos are important because they provide home to wild animals. In addition, they also provides financial benefits, for instance, a zoo in a city that have a range of aniamls, the local community as well as international tourits will also visit them. Ultimately, they become a source of income for their owners.

Furthermore, an other reason to prove my point is that they also provide a controlled environment for veterinary scientists and zologists to study animal physiology, genetics disease treatment, and reproductive behaviour. For example, different types of vaccines and drugs can be tested on these animals.Recent studies shows that monkeys and other animals are used for the testing on drugs. This will results in the introduction of new medicines which will be used for the overall human well-being.

In conclusion, zoos play an important role in the development of many drugs as well as they also essential to the native species.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely disagree with closing zoos, and the body gives relevant reasons concerning animal protection, income for communities, and scientific research. These points address the question, but they are not all developed equally. The claim that animals cannot survive in harsh jungle environments is broad and needs a specific explanation or example; likewise, the tourism point is only briefly connected to why zoos should remain open. The discussion of research is more clearly illustrated, although it focuses on testing medicines rather than explaining zoos’ wider conservation role. The conclusion restates your view but introduces little synthesis. Develop each reason with a clear explanation and a relevant, credible example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have a central focus, and signposts such as “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help the reader follow the argument. This organisation is effective, and the progression from animal care to research is logical. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “So, this is the main reason” repeats the preceding claim rather than extending it, while the tourism example is compressed into a long sentence and its link to the argument could be clearer. The final sentence also joins two points without showing their relationship. Use more precise referencing and connect each example explicitly to your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt vocabulary suited to the topic, including “safe shelter,” “veterinary scientists,” “animal physiology,” and “reproductive behaviour.” These choices show some range beyond basic language. However, spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable and sometimes make the reader pause: “zological,” “entertaiment,” “immucualte,” “hursh,” and “tourits” are examples. There are also inaccurate or unnatural combinations, such as “used as a entertainment purpose” and “provide home to wild animals.” Repetition of “provide” and “animals” limits flexibility. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases, such as “serve an educational purpose” or “provide a safe habitat.” More precise vocabulary would make the argument clearer and more natural.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple statements and attempts at complex sentences, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a relative clause in “a zoo in a city that have a range…”. The main ideas remain understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “they also provides” should use a plural verb, while “a zoo … that have” has a mismatch between the singular subject and verb. In “Recent studies shows,” the plural subject also requires a plural verb. The sentence beginning “for instance” is awkwardly constructed, and the final sentence lacks a clear grammatical connection between its two claims. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and building examples as complete, well-punctuated sentences.
