Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that animals are the major part of ecosystem, they play essential role in food chain. While some people contend that wildlife should not used as an exhibition or a source of entertainment, other concur that it is pivotal for endangered species to stay protected. I partially believe that animals should not be kept in zoos, although banning zoos permanently is not a judicious solution.

On the one hand, plants and animals are the most necessary part of environment. Firstly, they provide us food and resources like milk, meat, cotton, leather etc. Which plays a vital role in our lives. Secondly, animals like Vultures and Hyenas are the natural the cleaners of the environment keeping them under a prison or cage is an act against nature. For instance, if carnivorous animals are kept in zoos then the population of herbivorous is increased by default. Therefore, it is essential to leave wildlife alone in forests.

One the second hand, animals which are at the edge of extension should be protected by government by applying higher fines on hunting, make zoos within forests like forest park in which humans can also enjoy and the chances of their extension is kept lower. Therefore, closing zoos permanently may leads to a new issue, history teaches us when a popular thing is banned people usually finds an alternative. Furthermore, it may cause smuggling of endangered animals or an instant increase black marketing. Therefore it is mandatory to keep those animals in zoo.

In conclusion, keeping animals in zoos is causes various problems for us like increase in population of herbivorous, disrupting ecosystem. In addition animals which are about to extent should be protected by government by making zoos within forests for their natural habitat.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you oppose keeping animals in ordinary zoos but do not support closing all zoos, proposing protected forest parks instead. You address both sides and give relevant reasons, including the protection of endangered species and the risk of illegal trade if zoos are banned. The example about predators and herbivores also supports your concern about disrupting ecosystems. However, some points are not fully explained: the link between zoo populations and an increase in herbivores is asserted rather than demonstrated, and the proposed forest parks need more detail about how they would protect animals. Develop these ideas with clearer explanations and examples so that each part of your argument is equally convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. Phrases such as “On the one hand,” “Furthermore” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “One the second hand” is an inaccurate transition, and the first body paragraph moves from animals providing resources to scavengers cleaning the environment without clearly linking these points to the question of closing zoos. The conclusion repeats the main claims but does not clearly restate your qualified position. Improve progression by giving each paragraph one central purpose and using references and transitions that make the relationship between ideas explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic vocabulary, including “ecosystem,” “food chain,” “endangered species,” “smuggling” and “black marketing.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond basic terms. However, several inaccurate word choices or collocations make parts of the argument less precise: “edge of extension” appears to mean “at risk of extinction,” while “natural the cleaners” and “chances of their extension” are also unclear. Some expressions, such as “a popular thing,” are too general for an academic argument. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and check spelling and word forms, especially for key terms. More precise vocabulary would help communicate your ideas without changing their meaning.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a contrast in the opening and conditional reasoning such as “if carnivorous animals are kept in zoos.” Meaning is generally recoverable, but some grammatical errors occur across the response. For example, “wildlife should not used” is missing a verb form, and “keeping animals in zoos is causes” combines incompatible verb structures. There are also agreement and article problems in “animals are the major part” and “the population of herbivorous is increased.” Sentence boundaries need attention too: “Which plays a vital role in our lives” is an incomplete sentence after the preceding full stop. Review verb patterns, agreement, articles and punctuation, then proofread each sentence for a complete grammatical structure.
