Student answer (Band 5.5)

In the modern era, many environmentalists believe that animals must not be kept in zoos . According to them, animals have right to roam free in forests. That'swhy zoos should be closed. I support both sides of this view.

Firstly, zoos majorly contribute to the economy of a country. Zoos are considered as the major tourist attraction spots. For instance, many nature lovers visits different zoos to spot different kind of species. Moreover, zoos serve as best spots for children in order to gain information about several creatures. Such places help in increasing intellect of children.

However, Zoos are less supported by the environmentalists . Many animal conserving organisations despise the idea of caging animals in chambers. This disturbs the nature atmosphere of animals. To be more precise, animals shouldn't be captured from the forests .

To conclude, there is need of creating such reservoirs that does not detach animals from their natural atmosphere. A balanced approach should be used to help both animals and the nation's economy.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address the topic by presenting economic and educational benefits of zoos, then acknowledging concerns about animal welfare, and your conclusion calls for a balanced approach. However, “I support both sides of this view” does not clearly answer whether you agree or disagree with closing zoos, and the final proposal for “reservoirs” is not explained enough to resolve that position. The reasons are relevant but brief: the tourism and children’s learning points are asserted rather than supported with specific examples, while the animal-welfare concern is only briefly stated. The response also falls short of the required minimum length, leaving too little space to develop the argument. State a clear position and extend each main reason with explanation or an example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs for benefits and concerns, and a conclusion. Sequencing is generally easy to follow, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “However,” and “To conclude” help show the direction of the argument. At times, though, the progression is limited because each paragraph contains only a few points and the conclusion introduces “reservoirs” without connecting this proposal clearly to the earlier discussion. Some linking is also mechanical, with “Moreover” and “To be more precise” doing more to announce a point than to develop its relationship to the previous one. Build clearer links between claims and explanations, and use the conclusion to restate the position established in the introduction.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “environmentalists,” “tourist attraction,” “species,” and “caging animals,” so the main ideas are understandable. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “contribute to the economy” and “balanced approach.” However, several choices are awkward or imprecise: “nature atmosphere” is unclear, “animal conserving organisations” is not a natural collocation, and “majorly contribute” sounds unnatural in this context. “Spot different kind of species” is also imprecise and repetitive. Aim for accurate collocations and more precise wording, for example, describing animals’ natural habitats and saying visitors observe wildlife. This would make the argument sound more fluent and appropriately academic.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple sentences and some longer structures, including “Zoos are considered as the major tourist attraction spots” and “Such places help in increasing intellect of children.” The overall meaning is usually clear, but errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “many nature lovers visits” should have a plural verb, and “animals have right” needs an article. In “there is need of creating such reservoirs that does not detach animals,” the noun phrase and verb agreement are faulty. Punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent, including spaces before full stops and the capitalised “Zoos” after “However.” Review agreement and article use, and proofread punctuation while practising a wider range of accurate sentence patterns.
