Student answer (Band 7.0)
It is widely asserted that wild animals should not be kept in zoos, they should be closed. I partially disagree with this notion that they should be kept in zoos but maintaining proper laws, suitable atmosphere as well as providing sufficient food as they need.
To begin, there are a plethora of benefits of zoos. Firstly, it is a perfect place can be used as a recreational purposes specially for spending a family time. Therefore, They can enjoy a noise free, tranquil and serene environment living in a city. Moreover, it helps the children to broaden their horizons. With they visit to a zoo, they can learn several things about the wildlife. For instance, they can know about their features, their habits, their food and so along with observing them visually which is not possible to gain such knowledge by watching them on TV. Another important reason that these animals can be used in many significant clinical researches. For example, before the introduction of many life saving vaccines, they are tested in animal bodies such as in rabbits and monkeys. Last but not least, owing to climate change and other environmental issues, many wild animals are in the edge of extinction. Thus, zoos can be the best way for their conservation.
On the other hand, sometimes the animals feel lonely in cages being detached from their families and mother nature. As a result, they should be provided a suitable environment to adopt their. In addition, the researches should be carried out maintaining proper laws and regulations. Furthermore, in some cases, they face cruelty for the entertainment of the human. Consequently, horse and elephant rides should be prohibited in zoos.
To recapitulate, zoos can be served for our recreation, to conduct various significant researches, to conserve the endangered animals and so on. As a result, the animals should be ensured suitable atmosphere and proper rules must be maintained in conducting researches and to reduce the cruel behaviors.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all parts of the prompt, providing a clear position that zoos should be maintained under better conditions rather than closed. The ideas are relevant, covering educational, research, and conservation benefits. However, some arguments are slightly under-developed; for instance, the point about clinical research is mentioned but could be expanded with more nuance regarding ethical considerations. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points and reinforces the initial stance. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The essay is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph has a central theme, and the progression of ideas is generally smooth. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin', 'Moreover', 'Consequently', and 'To recapitulate' are used to link ideas. However, there are some instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some referencing is a bit unclear, such as 'they' in 'they are tested in animal bodies'. Despite these minor issues, the overall structure is coherent and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task. The student uses some good collocations like 'broaden their horizons', 'edge of extinction', and 'tranquil and serene environment'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and phrasing, such as 'recreational purposes' used as a noun phrase in a way that sounds slightly unnatural, and 'adopt their' instead of 'adapt'. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning clearly, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'a perfect place can be used' (missing relative pronoun), 'With they visit' (incorrect pronoun usage), and 'zoos can be served' (incorrect passive voice). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction that occasionally distract the reader. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more consistent control over complex grammatical forms to reach a higher band.
