Student answer (Band 6.5)

The debate whether to kept animals in zoos as opposed zoos should be closed, has become matter of discussion for society. In may opinion zoos should not be closed. In this eassy. I shall examine both points of view and present supporting arguments for my selection.

On the first hand, people think that zoos should be closed, but the main thing is that, not all animals are human friendly, some are very dangerous like lion, tiger, bear and wild cats. This animals are not able to get friendly with humans as they might attack on them and give serious injuries to them. For example as per recent reports, in Mumbai one couple all the way flew to Dubai and bring cheetah from Dubai because Dubai in Dubai we can buy any wild animals with special permission, so couple bought cheetah and came to Mumbai and one day couple going for a morning walk on street, suddenly cheetah attacked on pedestrian and they got seriously injured. This kind of wild life animals are only made up for jungles or for zoos, but some Animals are good with humans like cows, buffalos, dogs and donkey so some human friendly animal should not kept in zoos.

On the other hand, zoos are valuable educational centres. many children and adults learn about wildlife by seeing animals in person rather than only through books or television. This experience helps people understand the importance of protecting nature and encourage them to support wildlife conservation.

In conclusion, although some zoos do not treat animals properly, I do not agree that all zoos should be closed. Instead, government should ensure that zoos maintain high standards of animal cate while continuing their important work in conservation, education, and research.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. You have provided relevant arguments regarding safety and education. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The example provided about the cheetah in Mumbai is quite anecdotal and lacks the academic tone required for Task 2. Furthermore, the argument regarding 'human-friendly' animals like cows and donkeys is not entirely relevant to the debate about zoos, as these animals are typically kept on farms, not in zoos. To improve, focus on more sophisticated arguments regarding conservation, scientific research, and animal welfare standards rather than personal anecdotes.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'On the first hand' (though 'On the one hand' is the correct idiom) and 'In conclusion'. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. For instance, the transition between the safety argument and the example is abrupt. To reach a higher band, try to use a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that directly supports your overall position.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it lacks the precision and variety expected at higher levels. You rely on simple descriptors like 'human friendly' and 'dangerous'. There are also some errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'kept animals' instead of 'keeping animals' and 'made up for' instead of 'suited for'. To improve, incorporate more topic-specific vocabulary related to wildlife conservation, such as 'biodiversity', 'endangered species', 'habitat preservation', or 'ethical standards'. Expanding your range of synonyms will help you express your ideas with greater nuance.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('This animals are'), article usage ('the debate whether to kept'), and awkward phrasing ('the main thing is that, not all animals are human friendly'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While your meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and pluralization to improve your accuracy.
