Student answer (Band 5.5)

No the zoo should not be close because here we can see the animals kept in the zoo the child cannot go the jungle to gain knowledge about animals. So the children can visit the zoo to see the animals lives in front of them. As we know, some animals are wild so we can see them in other places so we need to kept them in zoo for our safety. Zoo is a place where we can see different type of animals like lions, monkey and horses. It is also a place where we can create a lot of memories. Zoo is a enjoyable and safe place for kids. So I will disagree with this decision that we should closed the zoo.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 123 words. This significantly limits the development of ideas. While you clearly state your position that zoos should not be closed, the arguments provided are underdeveloped and lack depth. You mention education and safety but do not expand on these points with sufficient detail or examples to meet the requirements of an Academic Task 2 essay. To improve, you must elaborate on your points, provide concrete examples, and ensure you meet the minimum length to allow for a full discussion of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay lacks a clear paragraph structure, consisting of only one block of text. While there is a basic logical flow, the lack of paragraphing makes the text difficult to navigate. Cohesive devices are minimal and repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'so' and 'also'. To improve, you should organize your ideas into clear paragraphs (introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion) and use a wider variety of linking words and transition signals to connect your ideas more fluidly.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas. Phrases like 'see the animals' and 'place where we can see' are used multiple times. There are also errors in word choice and form, such as 'animals lives' instead of 'animals living' and 'enjoyable' instead of 'an enjoyable'. To achieve a higher band, you need to expand your range of vocabulary to include more precise, academic terms related to the topic of animal conservation and education.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('zoo should not be close' instead of 'closed', 'we need to kept them' instead of 'keep them') and incorrect verb forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent. To improve, you should focus on mastering basic sentence construction and then attempt to incorporate more complex structures, such as relative clauses or conditional sentences, while ensuring accuracy in verb tenses and word forms.
