Student answer (Band 7.0)
Nowadays, more and more people like to visit zoos in order to see animals and charms of wildlife. It is argued by some sectors of society that the animals should not be kept in zoos and every zoo should be shut down, while others argue that we do not need to close them, instead we should increase its quantity. I acknowledge that both views have their importance and both are crucial. I remained neutral and I will explain the reason in this essay.
I could understand the arguments why people are concerned to close the zoos, there might be some authentic reasons behind this. The argument they give is that in zoos the staff usually do not take care of animals properly, while they run zoos like a profit-driven menageries they just look at their own pocket and do not care about the health of animals. Additionally, they also say that in zoos staff spoil the life of animals such as cramped cages, unnatural environment and stress. These steps are not reasonable to protect endangered species.
Similarly, their opponents places valid reasons too. According to them zoo play an essential role in the development a person. For instance, zoos in urban areas are recreational sights for locals, they visit zoos and learn about the wildlife and understand noticeable facts, also clear rumors about a particular animal. Moreover, zoos play critical role in order to protect endangered species and provide a suitable environment for breeding. Furthermore, scientists and veterinarians use zoo animals in their research and perform experiments, conclude their behaviors after and before experiment.
In conclusion, while traditional, substandard zoos raise serious ethical concerns regarding animal welfare, completely shutting down all facilities would be challenge to global conservation efforts. Rather than abolishing zoos altogether, a more sensible approach is to close cruel, profit-driven menageries while heavily funding and regulating modern, institutions that prioritize wildlife preservation, education, and scientific research.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all parts of the prompt, providing arguments for both sides and a clear conclusion. However, your position is stated as 'neutral' in the introduction. In IELTS Task 2, it is generally better to take a clear position throughout the essay rather than remaining neutral, as this allows for more cohesive argumentation. While you provided relevant points regarding animal welfare and educational benefits, some ideas, such as the mention of 'rumors' about animals, could have been explained more clearly to fully develop your argument. Overall, the response is relevant and covers the requirements of the task well.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use a range of cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Similarly', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing in the second paragraph ('their opponents') is clear, but the flow between sentences could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion is logical and easy to follow throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, including terms like 'endangered species', 'conservation efforts', and 'profit-driven'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'clear rumors' instead of 'dispel myths' and 'development a person' which should be 'development of a person'. Despite these occasional errors, your vocabulary is adequate to convey your meaning clearly and allows for some flexibility in expressing your ideas on a complex topic.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While there are some grammatical errors, such as 'I could understand the arguments why people are concerned to close' (should be 'concerned about closing') and 'conclude their behaviors' (should be 'analyze their behaviors'), these errors do not impede communication. You show good control over basic grammar, and your punctuation is generally accurate. To reach a higher band, focus on refining complex sentence structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement and preposition usage are consistently accurate.
