Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people believe that they do not need to kept animals in zoos, as it make people offended so that it should be shutdown. I agree with this statement because in my opinion, everyone should have to move freely as they also have lives.

One of the most convincing reason behind my agreement is that animals also have lives if we kept them on cage or zoos they cannot move out so that it affects them mentally and physically, as a result they are depend on humans. In addition, we need to build forests so that they can move there freely as they can survive on their own. Some animals are not adjust themselves in the zoo because they need more peaceful environment which they could not get there. As a result, they are out of control or ended up dying.

Moreover, some people disagree with this statement as they think that zoos are safe for animals and also they get all the facilities that are not available in the forests. Many people like to see animal in the zoo so that it changes their thought of their thinking ability. And zoo management provides various cure and a good environment so that animals do not suffer from any disease as they check up all the animals over the time.

To conclude, in my opinion, animals have their life so it better not to kept them in zoo instead of build forests and safari park so that they can live and spend their life.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of closing zoos. However, the development of ideas is limited. While you mention animal welfare and the need for natural habitats, the arguments are somewhat repetitive and lack depth. For example, the point about animals being 'out of control' is vague and not fully supported. To improve, you should provide more specific examples or logical explanations for your claims. The counter-argument is acknowledged, but it is not balanced well with your own position, which is necessary for a higher band score. Ensure that each paragraph focuses on one clear, well-developed idea.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. You use some basic cohesive devices like 'In addition', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and the logical progression is occasionally interrupted by grammatical errors that make the relationships between ideas unclear. For instance, the transition in the second paragraph regarding the 'peaceful environment' is a bit abrupt. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each sentence logically follows the previous one to create a smoother, more cohesive argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but it is quite basic and repetitive. You use words like 'animals', 'zoo', and 'life' frequently. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'they cannot move out' instead of 'they cannot roam freely' or 'provide various cure' instead of 'provide medical care'. To reach a higher band, you should attempt to use more precise, academic vocabulary and collocations related to the topic, such as 'conservation', 'natural habitat', 'psychological distress', or 'veterinary attention'. Expanding your range will help you express your ideas with more clarity and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the essay that occasionally impede communication. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('it make people', 'animals are not adjust'), incorrect verb forms ('need to kept', 'better not to kept'), and awkward sentence structures. While you attempt some complex sentences, they are often faulty. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, particularly verb tenses and infinitive structures. Proofreading for common errors like 'they are depend' (should be 'they depend') will significantly improve the accuracy of your writing. Increasing your control over simple structures is the first step before moving to more complex ones.
