Student answer (Band 6.0)
Some people say that there is no need of animals in zoos , so zoos should be closed. Other like animals and says there is need of animals in zoos. According to my opinion there is a need of animals in zoos .Thus, zoos should not be closed.
Animals in zoo played an important role in the beauty of zoo. It also attracts tourist and the local people those visits the zoo. Some people visit zoo only to see beautiful animals. Childrens also like animals .They really enjoyed by playing with animals . Zoo is a good place for them to visit and enjoy. A lot of people from different countries visit pakistan for tourism . In this way they can really enjoyed the zoo by seeing beautiful animals present in it.
Stay of animals in zoo also protect their prsence in the world . In Forest the presence of every animal is in danger because one animal eats other and sometime kills other . A lion in forest eats deer, rabbit and some other. Which leads to Shortage of such animals. If we kept some pairs of these animals in zoo then in this way we can safe the presence of these animals.
In contrast , if animals are removed from the zoo then we use the place of zoo for some other useful purpose. The government can use such place for making offices or parks for people.
In conclusion, I strongly disagree with the statement that there is no need of animals in zoos and zoos should be closed.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The essay addresses the prompt and maintains a clear position throughout. However, the development of ideas is limited. The argument regarding conservation is somewhat simplistic, as zoos are generally not the primary solution for preventing extinction in the wild. The points about tourism and urban planning are relevant but lack depth and supporting evidence. To reach a higher band, you should provide more nuanced arguments, such as discussing the role of zoos in education or scientific research, and ensure that your reasoning is more logically sound and fully extended.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is quite mechanical and sometimes inaccurate. For example, the transition 'Thus' is used prematurely in the introduction, and 'In contrast' is used to introduce a point that does not strongly contradict the previous paragraph. There is a lack of sophisticated linking words to connect ideas within and between paragraphs. Improving the variety and precision of your cohesive devices will help the flow of your writing significantly.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is frequent repetition of basic words like 'animals', 'zoo', and 'beautiful'. Some word choices are unnatural, such as 'protect their presence' instead of 'protect their populations' or 'conserve their species'. There are also minor errors in word formation, such as 'Childrens' (should be 'Children'). To improve, focus on using more academic synonyms and collocations related to the topic of wildlife and conservation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay relies heavily on simple sentence structures. While there are some attempts at complex sentences, they are often marred by grammatical errors, such as 'Other like animals and says there is need' (subject-verb agreement) and 'They really enjoyed by playing' (passive voice misuse). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with missing spaces after commas and incorrect capitalization of 'Forest' and 'Shortage'. Frequent errors in articles, verb tenses, and pluralization occur throughout the text, which occasionally hinders the clarity of your message.
