Student answer (Band 5.0)

In recent years it is often debate about zoo should be closed and make animals free from zoos . From my perspective I personally agree with this statement in fact of animal should be free to live their lives .

Animals are wild they love to live in nature they love to have free will and enjoy in forest but people use them as showpiece in zoos and make money for their benefits. animals love to be in forests because its their first home and they feel more comfortable in nature instead of being in zoo and live under others command . Especially in zoo the owners treat animals like their pets which is really unfair for them. for instance if animals is released from zoo then they can live their life freely.

Animals should released from zoo and let them live their life . We should not use freedom of animals for our benefits and should respect their emotions . zoos should be closed and jungle safari should be promoted instead and we should not disturb or harm the privacy of animals and instead we should protect them . nation should make strict rules for preservation of wild life and should invest more focus on preserving forests .

In sum up, I must say animals should be free and live their life instead of being in zoos and responding to commands and I personally think that we should also respect emotions of animals and they should not be treated as pets they should have free will to live theirlife on their own

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position in favor of closing zoos. However, the development of ideas is limited and repetitive. The arguments rely on general statements about animal freedom rather than exploring the complexities of the issue, such as the role of zoos in conservation, education, or scientific research. While the position is consistent, the lack of depth and the tendency to repeat the same point—that animals should be free—prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. To improve, you should provide specific examples or counter-arguments to create a more balanced and nuanced discussion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The transition between ideas is often abrupt, and the use of cohesive devices is very limited. For example, the phrase 'In sum up' is an incorrect collocation for a concluding paragraph. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow of the argument feels mechanical. To improve, focus on using a wider variety of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore', 'consequently', 'on the other hand') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that connects logically to the previous one.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive, often relying on simple words like 'love', 'free', and 'life'. There are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'in fact of' instead of 'in fact' or 'in favor of', and 'showpiece' used in an inappropriate context. The range of vocabulary is insufficient to express complex ideas effectively. To improve, try to incorporate more academic collocations and topic-specific terminology related to animal welfare and environmental conservation, while paying closer attention to word forms and standard usage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow of reading. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'it is often debate', 'animals is released'), missing articles, and awkward sentence structures. The range of structures is limited, consisting mostly of simple sentences. Complex sentences are rare and often contain errors, such as 'animals should released from zoo'. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, including correct verb tenses and the use of articles, before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
