Student answer (Band 5.5)

Zoo, In recent years zoo has become a debatable topic for many people. Few of them says zoo's are entertaining and relaxing place for both kids and adults. some says it is waste of funds for developing of zoos. We will be discussing both the views here.Despite of many opinions.

On one hand, Zoo are economical to government because there will be an entry fee for zoo depends on age. Many people thing zoo is a place where we can see many vulnerable animals and we can protect many endangered species because of human disasters like deforestation and hunting etc. So, zoos are a place where we can save many animals by giving them shelter, food which in turn brings many visitors and income to country which is actualluy less than what we invest on them .Actually, we humans occupied animals land for cultivation and industries etc . So atleast we should protect them by putting them in zoo.

On other hand, Few individuals things government is spending more on zoos like getting different aninamls from foreign contries, investing more on there food, shelter, health, many workers are needed to take care them and maintaing of zoo neat and clean. Few people things zoo is like restriction for some animals which need more space, water and trees to be healthy. So government should close all zoos and leave animals in the forest. So, that they can live peaceful in their own land without any rules. By this way we can reduce expenditure on animal wellbeing.

Overall, As far as i concerned some endangered spices need a zoos to protect them but by allocating more land to them so that they can freely roam as if they are living in the forest. If we want our kids to know about different animals we can plan safaris with experience staff in forests in turns brings many profits Maybe few thinks of closing zoo so that animals can live in forest.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by discussing both sides of the argument regarding zoos. However, the position is somewhat inconsistent. While the introduction mentions discussing both views, the conclusion introduces a new, nuanced perspective (safaris) that was not fully developed in the body paragraphs. The ideas are relevant but lack depth; for instance, the argument about 'human disasters' is mentioned but not clearly linked to the necessity of zoos in a sophisticated way. To improve, ensure your position is clearly stated in the introduction and consistently supported throughout the essay without introducing new, unrelated solutions in the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'Despite of many opinions' are used incorrectly, and the transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as the use of 'they' and 'them' without a clear antecedent. The logical progression is present but hindered by repetitive sentence structures and a lack of sophisticated linking words. Improving the variety and accuracy of transition signals would significantly enhance the flow of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. There are several instances of word-choice errors and spelling mistakes, such as 'aninamls', 'contries', 'maintaing', and 'spices' (instead of species). The range is limited, relying on basic terms like 'good', 'bad', or 'place'. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on using more precise academic vocabulary and ensuring correct spelling. Additionally, try to avoid repeating the same words in close proximity, such as the frequent repetition of 'zoo' and 'animals'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'Zoo are economical', 'Few individuals things'), missing articles ('to government', 'in forest'), and incorrect preposition usage. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with several run-on sentences and missing spaces after commas. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be very beneficial.
