Student answer (Band 6.0)

While many critics argue that animal captivity should be stopped and facilities such as zoos should be abolished, I firmly believe that such facilities should be preserved because they play a vital role in the conservation of endangered species and helps in educational and research purposes.

In my perspective, zoos plays a greater role in research purposes for biologist. It is because in captivity animals behavior can be analyzed and studied which help in preservation of ecosystem and help such species to sustain further. For instance, Bald eagle were endangered for a long time in USA. However, biologists studied and help them in their reproduction and increase their population by creating favorable conditions and help them to survive. Consequently, played a greater role in benefiting the human species about the dangers and vital cognitive diseases from them.

My opponents argued that it leads in animal cruelty and violation of their autonomous behavior. However, I believe that they play a significant role in conservation of such species by providing favorable conditions and help them to live to their full extent and increase the chance of survival. For example, a panda can't survive in nature on their own because of their clumsy behavior. Yet, in zoo they flourish because of favorable conditions such as adequate amount of feed as well as better nourishment from caretakers. Consequently, wilderness can be analyzed by the children to know about such animals which isn't easily visible in the nature.

In conclusion, zoos should be preserved because they help in reproduction and better survival of endangered species as well as help biologists to study and analyze such species for better preparation of future.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

You have clearly stated your position in the introduction and maintained it throughout the essay. You address both the conservation and educational aspects of zoos, providing relevant examples such as the Bald eagle and the panda. However, some ideas are slightly under-developed; for instance, the claim that zoos help in 'benefiting the human species about the dangers and vital cognitive diseases' is vague and lacks a clear logical link to the argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that every supporting point is fully explained and directly tied back to your central thesis.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. You use cohesive devices such as 'For instance', 'Consequently', and 'However' to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the transition between the discussion of the Bald eagle and the mention of 'cognitive diseases' is abrupt and confusing. Improving the variety of your linking words and ensuring that each paragraph has a strong topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'endangered species', 'captivity', and 'autonomous behavior'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'help them to live to their full extent' (which is not a standard idiom) and 'wilderness can be analyzed by the children'. The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and sophistication required for higher bands. Focusing on learning collocations and more academic phrasing will help you express your ideas with greater clarity and impact.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally distract the reader. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'zoos plays', 'animals behavior') and article usage (e.g., 'in zoo', 'in nature'). While these errors do not impede communication, they are persistent throughout the text. To improve, pay closer attention to pluralization and subject-verb agreement. Additionally, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex structures, such as conditional sentences or passive voice, while ensuring they are used accurately.
