Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is often argued that the need of zoo is no longer exist and should get discontinued. I completely agree with the opinion that zoo should be shut down.

Firstly, several species and animals prefer to live in open world rather than capturing in the cage. Freedom is a fundamental right for every living creature in the world. Many animals are suitable in their natural habitat. Many zoo in the world consist of carnivorous animals whose nutrition depend upon other animals and many zoo staffs provide some amount flesh which makes them loose its ability to hunt. Many animals in zoo are kept inside the cage and many learner do not get information about their habitat and their activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response is significantly under the required word count of 250 words, which severely limits the development of your ideas. While you state your position clearly, the arguments provided are underdeveloped and lack sufficient supporting evidence or examples. The prompt asks for a discussion on whether zoos should be closed, but your response only touches upon animal welfare and education without exploring the counter-arguments or the potential conservation benefits of zoos. To improve, you must expand your points with detailed explanations and examples to meet the minimum length requirement and demonstrate a more comprehensive understanding of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is very brief, making it difficult to assess your ability to organize ideas over a full-length response. You use basic transition words like 'Firstly', but the overall structure is fragmented. The paragraphing is insufficient, and the logical flow between sentences is weak. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on developing clear topic sentences for each paragraph and using a wider variety of cohesive devices to link your ideas more fluidly. Ensure that each paragraph contains a clear, well-supported argument that contributes to the overall progression of your essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

Your vocabulary is quite limited and repetitive. You rely on basic terms such as 'animals', 'zoo', and 'cage'. There are also issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'need of zoo is no longer exist' (should be 'the need for zoos no longer exists') and 'nutrition depend upon' (should be 'nutrition depends on'). To improve, you should aim to use more precise academic vocabulary and collocations. For example, instead of 'open world', use 'natural habitat' or 'the wild'. Expanding your range of vocabulary will help you express your ideas with greater clarity and sophistication.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'zoo should be shut down' (missing article), 'many zoo in the world' (pluralization error), and 'many learner' (pluralization error). Your sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex grammatical forms. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, proper use of articles, and the construction of complex sentences using subordinating conjunctions. Proofreading your work for basic errors like pluralization and verb tense consistency will also significantly improve your accuracy.
