Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 167 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you state your position clearly, the arguments provided are underdeveloped. For instance, you mention 'environmental issues' and 'costly food' as reasons to close zoos, but these points are not explained or supported with relevant examples or logical reasoning. To improve, you must expand each body paragraph with detailed explanations and concrete examples to fully address the prompt. The current response is too brief to demonstrate the ability to develop a coherent argument, which is essential for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay uses basic paragraphing and some cohesive devices such as 'On the one hand' and 'On the other hand'. However, the progression of ideas is limited due to the brevity of the text. The transition between sentences is often mechanical, and the concluding paragraph is repetitive and lacks a clear summary of the points discussed. To improve, focus on using a wider range of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence followed by supporting details that flow logically from one to the next.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is quite basic and repetitive. You rely on simple terms like 'enjoyment', 'wild life', and 'costly'. There are also errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'entertament' (entertainment) and 'put purpose'. The phrase 'let it free' is grammatically incorrect and unnatural. To achieve a higher score, you should aim to incorporate more precise, academic vocabulary related to the topic, such as 'conservation', 'ethical implications', 'natural habitat', and 'educational value', while ensuring correct spelling and collocation.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede communication. Examples include 'some says', 'their is some advantage', and 'the advantages of zoo should be close'. Sentence structures are mostly simple, and there is a lack of complex sentence forms. Punctuation is also inconsistent, with excessive use of hyphens and commas where full stops are needed. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, correct verb forms, and the use of complex sentences (e.g., using relative clauses or conditional structures) to demonstrate a wider range of grammatical control.
