Student answer (Band 5.5)

Every creature have right to live freely, we are no one to bound any creature. However, animals should be kept in jungles rather than the zoos. However, zoos should be shut down. In my opinion, this is very good initiate for the safety and well being of animals.

Zoos are one of those tourists spot, people get really attracted to them, specially for children, because many wild animal can be seen only in zoos. Not every body have access to jungles. For instance, lion, tiger, gorillas, elephants etc are the wild creature, wide range of population have only seen them in zoos. Moreover, this is significant as a tourist spot which helps in economy of any state.

In contrast, the safety and well being of animals have been compromised in zoos. As an example, every creature have its own natural habitat and they are harnessed to stay in particular environment. By prisoning them into the cage, they don't get adequate environment, just like temperature, natural environment, specific area etc. Another reason is, animals live in herd, by keeping them in cage they starts feeling isolated and surrounded by crowd they may get ill.

In my perspective, every creature have right to live their own, by keeping them into the cage is selfishness of human being. This is our responsibility to give them secure environment by not intervening in their area. So that they can feel safe and sound.

Overall, zoos are one of the most famous tourists spot but we are no one to take freedom from anyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses the prompt by taking a clear position against zoos. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you mention the economic benefits of zoos and the welfare concerns for animals, these points are not fully extended with specific evidence or deeper analysis. The argument remains somewhat repetitive, particularly in the conclusion, which restates the introduction without adding new insight. To reach a higher band, ensure each body paragraph explores a single idea in greater depth, perhaps by discussing the role of modern conservation versus the ethical implications of captivity more thoroughly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is an attempt to use cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'In contrast'. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical or slightly inaccurate, such as starting two consecutive sentences with 'However' in the introduction. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the transition between the economic benefits of zoos and the ethical arguments could be smoother. The referencing is occasionally repetitive, which affects the flow of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'natural habitat', 'well being', and 'compromised', but there is a reliance on simpler phrasing. There are also some word-choice errors, such as 'initiate' (should be 'initiative'), 'harnessed' (should be 'forced' or 'confined'), and 'prisoning' (should be 'imprisoning'). To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing like 'every creature' and 'tourists spot'.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the reader. Subject-verb agreement is a recurring issue, for example: 'Every creature have' (should be 'has'), 'animals live... they starts' (should be 'start'), and 'not every body have' (should be 'has'). Additionally, there are punctuation and article errors throughout. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic agreement and verb forms.
